car trailer inc questions

well i got me a 18 foot dove tail trailer
now i got inc questions
i called my truck inc place and ask about them covering the trailer and they told me i would have to get a endorsment on the truck( for $10 every 6 months) and they would inc the trailer ( for $50 every 6 months) but not what is being hauled on it
does that sound rite to yall ?
what if i am hauling the farm tractor ?
what if i am just hauling tractor attacments ?
what if i am hauling junk off to the crusher and sumthing falls off and hurts anouther car ?
what if i am hualing the 67 or blazer or any of my trucks ?
the resion a ask all this is due to the other thread where the burb was on the trailer and crashed , seams to me he said he had inc that would cover the burb and everything ?
i am starting to think getting this trailer was a big mistake , or am i just being
paranoid ?

Re: car trailer inc questions

I think liability will cover any damage you cause to other vehicles due to things falling off of your trailer but I think you have to insure your loads seperatly from the truc and trailer.

they told me that the inc on the tractor would cover the tractor ,but what about tractor attacments i dont think there is inc on them ?
lets say i am going to texas to get sumthing and i haul parts from here to there and parts from there back to here ?

where i can i get inc on loads ? and about how much does that cost ?

i think i am just being too paranoid ? but i am trying to cover my butt just incase sumthing does happin

or do i need to look for a differant inc company ?

Re: car trailer inc questions

I'd say you're being too paranoid. If you try to insure everything you haul, you probably won't be able to afford it. If your load is only worth a few thousand dollars, you could probably afford the loss. If you're hauling for someone else, you need to have an understanding that the object is not insured unless they have it insured. If you're in a wreck that is someone else's fault, their insurance will cover it, hopefully.

As an example, I currently have full coverage on one of my four vehicles, my wife's van. Since she drives as part of her job, it's a requirement. The rest aren't worth more than a few thousand each, and only get liability. I'll take the hit, if I have to, and move on.

Re: car trailer inc questions

I have pulled my old 16' flatbed all over with anything that would fit on it and never gave it a thought. The only problem that I have ever had has been not having a lic. plate on it. I don't have coverage on the 24' enclosed but need to take care of that before I start pulling it allot. Guess I need to call my insurance agent.

Re: car trailer inc questions

i have general liability for my business, but it covers any loss of my equipment, but you are probably going to need cargo insurance like u get for semi's, usually on a big truck for non-regulated freight its 100,000 cargo, but you could get say 10,000 and it'll cover anything you haul up to that amount.

Re: car trailer inc questions

If something falls off the trailer or the trailer falls off the truck and causes damage to some other "property" (car, boat, mailbox, lawn, person) etc. etc. then the
"Liability" part of your insurance will cover it.

The endorsments they are talking about are like buying "Full Coverage" for your trailer in the event that it is damaged in some sort of "collision" - they will pay the ACV on the trailer or get it fixed or whatever.

What's ON the trailer needs to have it's own "Full Coverage" - so if you are hauling insured vehicles there should be no problem.

As far as the tractor goes...your covered if it causes damage to other property but if it falls off and gets damaged....they Ins. won't cover the damages.

Confused yet?

Yeh your being a little on the paranoid size.

If you're worried that your cargo is valuable enough to merit being insured...than get it insured.

But as far as taking stuff to the scrap yard....you're covered

Disclaimer:
Always read ALL sections of your ins. policy - and if you don't understand something ask your ins. agent to explain it. There are always stupid catch 22's hidden in there...like

"if your vehicle is a total loss by tornado coverage does not apply" - that may be extreme but there is always funky working in insurance policys
