Starter silenoid wiring help
I have one of those mini high torque starters and on the silenoid end there is two larger copper threaded 1/2" nuts and one spade terminal. My new M&H wiring harness has a purple and yellow wire that are supposed to go to the silenoid but the circleends are way too small and doesn't the positive from the battery go straight to the silenoid too?
Anyone wired uo one of these mini units??? Alex Last edited by ChevyDude; 06-18-2006 at 09:34 AM. |

Re: Starter silenoid wiring help
Are you running HEI...if so get rid of the yellow wire.Purple is hot when cranking the eng. and should be connected to the trigger terminal ("S" terminal).
If you give me the make and part number of your starter I can look up the schematic online and give you some better info. In general though...large terminal marked "BAT" gets the battery cable connected to it. The smaller terminal marked "SWITCH" or "S" gets the purple wire attached to it. If you have points that's where the yellow wire would come into play. That connection is sometimes marked "MOTOR" or "I"

Re: Starter silenoid wiring help
If your useing a Ford remote solenoid...jump the connection between the "BAT" terminal and the "SWITCH" or "S" termianl.

Re: Starter silenoid wiring help
Cut the eyelet off the purple wire, and put a spaid terminal on it, and plug it in.
If you want to prove this to yourself before cutting on a new high dollar harness, then install the starter, hook up the battery cable to it and both BOS & NEG on the battery, and then touch a small wire from the POS to the spaid, the engine will crank over. |

The spade is on the silenoid. Not connected to a wire,,,just a spade. Last edited by ChevyDude; 06-18-2006 at 05:50 PM. |
