Disc rear end swap

Im putting together a '70 C10 SWB and I have a rear end question for you all. Im buying a '96 Caprice with the police package from a fellow board member and was hoping that I might do a direct swap of the rear end. I have Googled my eyes out over the past week but found nothing definative...any ideas?

I currently have a 6 lug non posi rear with 3.73 gears and drum brakes. The Caprice has a 5 lug posi rear with 3.08 gears and disc brakes...which would save me some green if I can use it. Any input is appreciated!

Re: Disc rear end swap

Does the new rear end have at least a 12bolt. I wouldn't think it would.

Re: Disc rear end swap

Negative, its a 10 bolt 8.5" im pretty sure.

I just noticed that there is another thread concerning the use of Impala SS brakes on our trucks. Would that be a better idea than using the entire rear end off the Caprice?

Re: Disc rear end swap

I'm not very hip to brakes and the conversion process. Others will reply with better details.

The model car that the axle was pulled out of concerned me because it was probably not a 12 bolt. You may have some limitations as to how much power you can bolt up to that rear end.
