Re: radio options
I have a retrosound in mine but you definitely need an amp, and am having a little problem organizing my music on a flash drive, but I don't think it's the unit, it's just me. It's an O.K. unit and better than custom sound, but not much, IMO. I'm not too crazy about the kickpanel speakers either. At any rate, I'll be looking to change things a bit, because it sounds horrible right now.

Re: radio options
factory am/fm in the dash, something that works hidden anywhere, under seat, glovebox ect.

Re: radio options
Check out mahanian, on the board. He has a really nice billet aluminum part that enables a DIN-sized radio unit to fit into the dash. I know, I know.....don't cut the dash is the mantra for a lot of folks. The only problem, and I'm sure you are aware, is that we don't have many choices when it comes to 2-shaft radios.
There was an extensive series of postings done on his part, so do a search and I'm sure you can find it. I bought one for my truck, which hasn't yet been installed (waiting until other work is done), but I'm gonna enjoy an AM/FM/CD unit when it's ready.

Re: radio options
Cut the dash and install a "Quality" radio. I just went thru this recently and I could not be happier.
I had one of those retro radios in my el camino and it was a POS it lasted me three months and it blew up.

Re: radio options
I don't care what anyone says, Custom autosound rocks! I have had one for several years, and it works great. The people who don't like it are more than likely using $20 Kraco speakers. You cannot expect much if you do not use quality speakers.

Re: radio options
That's what I though but wasn't sure.
Which one did you get? I was looking at the one in the Classic Parts catalog pn# 69-758 for $234 and 240 watts of power. I'm not into a lot of loud music and big speakers but I figured with the extra wattage the quality would be better with some good speakers. |

Re: radio options
I installed one of the retrosound units in a Blazer. If I remember it has RCA jacks to connect front.rear and sub amps, PLUS a mini usb on the faceplate to connect your thumbdrive or IPOD.

Re: radio options
What is the deal with not cutting the dash? its metal and can just be welded back if needed right? most people on here seem to think the dash is trash if it is cut, but it can be fixed like any other piece of metal. why do people not object as much to shaving the firewall and side markers and trim holes and stuff? aftermarket radios that require a cut dash are cheaper and just all around better in my opinion. just my 2 cents... really not trying to offend anyone.
