Sellers RANT!

Ok most of you know I bought a 92 Chevy Cheyenne W/T. I put a few dollars into it made it right. Nothing mechanical wrong with it. Yes it has the typical rust spots. Seat has a tear in it. Here is what has been done to it. Exhaust, 350 with 75,000 miles on it, trans with 1500 miles on it, Heavier rear springs, New radiator, new high pressure hose for the power steering, New brakes, new brake lines, new right outside mirror, battery replaced, front suspension rebuilt, New tires and rims....and a few other things I cant think of at the moment. Kelly Blue Book is 2615.00....even low dollar is 2115.00. I told a guy 2000.00.

Here is the problem. He brought his wife. She complained about the minimal rust. She complained it needed washed. She told him to tell me they would give 1200.00. No way I am taking that. I even have a clean Carfax on it.

Why when someone goes to buy something...they bring their wives to come and complain about things that dont mean anything? dust on the dash isn't going to stop the truck from running and driving. I even put in my listing I will not be low balled on this truck. before I will give it away I will keep it.

This is the second truck this has happened too.

Rant Off

Some guys can't take a leak without their wife's permission. I believe that may be what you just had an encounter with.

She may have been nit picky.. but she has the control. In her mind.. if it's not clean..it must not have been taken care of.
Wash it for when the next wife comes by.

I think I am going to start questioning the guys if they are going to bring their wives...ask if they have control....if they say yes...I am going to send them somewhere else!

Re: Sellers RANT!

I heard those comments about my Blazer, "it is filthy" like that has something to do with how it runs or drives? I take care of my vehicles, I just live in AZ where it is dusty and muddy when it rains/snows? I don't live near a carwash, etc I too wonder what buyers think, anyways he brought her along because he can't doesn't have the NADS to low ball you himself, his wife had the handbag, and therefor his NAD hiding place!

Re: Sellers RANT!

Dealing with people is all part of selling stuff. People generally assume that if something is dirty on the outside, it is probably dirty on the inside. I'd probably make sure it was as clean as possible and then they can focus on the mechanics.

Don't feel bad I had a guy offer me a bath tub for my 72 cheyenne. The guy that finally bought it came back with a full offer after I kicked him and his smart dad off my property.

Re: Sellers RANT!

Guys, I posted it on craigslist. I think i covered all the bases in what I said.
take a look and you guys tell me.

XXXX Chevy Cheyenne - $2000

I had this posted before with a V6 in it. Someone came by "test" drove it and told me after 30 minutes of driving it that 5 minutes after they were driving it the motor started knocking. They blew up the motor for me and offered me 500.00. I will be very cautious this time about who Test Drives my truck. I will not be low balled on this truck after all the work I have put in to it. I will be a little flexible...but not to be low balled.
I have a clean title and a clean Carfax report on it too. Never been wrecked. Kelly blue book on this truck is $2515.00
This is a XXXX Cheyenne W/T. Nice truck, Lots of new parts. Good on gas. 36 Gallon tank.
350 GM crate motor w/75,000 Miles, I installed this motor for a friend 3 years ago. I have done all the maintenance since then, New Trans w/1500 Miles, New Starter, Rear Springs Recently New, 4 New Tires, Aluminum Mag Rims, Front End Rebuilt, Exhaust Recently New, Brakes New, New Radiator, JVC Detachable AM/FM/CD Player, P/S, P/B, Air, New Brake Line, GM Bed Liner, New Power Steering Hose and Running Boards.
$2000.00 OBO

Re: Sellers RANT!

Looks/sounds pretty decent to me.

I know this is stupid, but it may seriously help the sale... since most of it is gone anyway, finish pulling off the lower belt trim and clean off the glue that's left. It will have a pretty big visual impact.

I am also a firm believer that you should clean up whatever your selling really well. Interior, exterior, etc, even if it's a complete rusted out turd, because IMO, it really makes a difference to a buyer, and if you want top dollar for what you're selling, you should take the time to clean it up.

I am not sure if it would end up pulling off the paint. Kinda the reason why i didnt pull the rest off. Its after market anyways. The interior had alot of mud in it....so I hosed it out and scrubbed the mat. Its just dusty now. I cleaned all the windows. I washed the truck. It just a little dusty now.

I would had said "If you want a 1,200 truck you need to keep looking now if you want a 2,000 dollar truck here it is" Have a great day!!!
Your stuff is never worth anything but then when they are selling, theirs is worth all the money. People are a joke, I have my Harley posted in a few websites and you should see the offer I have gotten from trading for a tractor to a boat to a bucket of junk.

Re: Sellers RANT!

I agree about pulling the molding off. Don't take this as nit picking, just offering suggestions, but with the molding looking they way it does it screams "half-assed." How serious do you think they are going to take you on all the other things you list (engine, maintenance, etc) if you won't take the time to fix something as simple as the molding. Again, not nit-picking just offering suggestions. Remember, 1st impressions are the most important and humans are visual creatures and the cleaner and more organized something is the more pleasant it is to the human eye.

here are some FREE or CHEAP things I would do just out of habit and by looking at your pics ...

- Spend $5-$10 at the car wash and wash down the engine.
- Clean the interior till it sparkles. A bottle of Simple Green, a brush and a wet towel will work miracles on vinyl & plastic.
- Throw an air freshener under the seat
- Put a screw in that front air damn ... it too screams half-ass.
- Polish those aluminum wheels.
- Polish those running boards.
- Scrub the tires with Comet and a brush
- Make sure there aren't any loud rattles or squeaks ... if there are, hunt them down and fix them.
- If you know a potential buyer is coming over to look at it, go out and wipe the dust off. It only takes 5 minutes and could sell the truck for ya.

All of this can be done for less than $20 and will got miles helping you sell it. If you want to sell it for $2,000 then you need to market it as if it is a $2,500 truck. Folks are gonna want to negotiate on price regardless of what you put in your add. It's all part of the hunt it down mentality and it's just human nature. They want to feel like they are getting the better end of the deal, and it's up to you as a seller to make them feel that way while they are handing you the exact amount you originally wanted for it.

Re: Sellers RANT!

I would drop the part about test drive blew the motor.
I recall your post about it, and yeah it's a bi7ch but it sounds like the truck has been beat on.
Seriously, I wouldn't worry about that guy. When it's meant to sell, it will.
I sometimes look at CL trucks just to test the market. I'm not being a jerk, I just want to know what my money will bring me.
With that being said, I am always polite and say it's not what I'm looking for but thanks for your time.
CL has been ruined by first-class buttheads, so I try to be cool cause I may be selling to that guy next time around.

Nice looking truck and a nice job of swapping in the motor.
Like said, If a Man brings his wife to look at a work truck, you might as well forget selling it to him.
No, offence to the ladies on here, but that is just how it is.

True 'nuff.
An old friend of mine's dad had a Shell station & he would also turn cars for a little extra cash.
His philosophy was; "There's an a$$ for every seat. And it doesn't cost me anything to have it sit here."
He'd dang near get the asking price, or close to it every time.

Re: Sellers RANT!

^Good point, I think I would drop that from the ad as well.

Also, the part about the 350 is a little confusing.

Just my opinion, but here's how I would revise it:

Quote:
xXXXXX Chevrolet Pick-up with Cheyenne W/T Package.
xXXXXX or best REASONABLE offer.

The truck has a clean title and it also has a clean Carfax report. I bought this truck used and to the best of my knowledge is has never been wrecked.

This is a nice truck and I have added lots of new parts. The truck is good on gas and has a 36 Gallon tank.

The truck has a well maintained GM 350 crate motor with approximately 75,000 Miles, and the transmission was rebuilt approximately 1,500 miles ago.

It also has a new starter, recently replaced the rear springs, 4 New Tires, Aluminum Mag Rims, Rebuilt front suspension, the exhaust was recently replaced, new brakes, new radiator, JVC Detachable AM/FM/CD Player, P/S, P/B, Cold A/C, New Brake Lines, GM Bed Liner, New Power Steering Hose and Running Boards.

This truck is a great, dependable runner, and is ready for a new home.
I made a couple assumptions, which I think would be true...

Re: Sellers RANT!

Shane and retodd7711 offer excellent advice. I have sold many cars and trucks. NEVER tell the buyer about problems you have fixed. Detail the vehicle like your going on a hot date, and always offer a little wiggle room for "serious" buyers.

BTW- I edited your link because the post had been repoerted.
