I need your help to put my truck back together!
Hi,
I'm trying to put my freshly painted 72 K20 back together...but a couple of small items are holding me back! First where do you find a new brake rod boot? The one that fits in the firewall. Bob's chevy parts lists them but they don't have them anymore. Tried NAPA no luck, also as far as I can tell the usual suspects don't have them either. Help me out where do you guys find them! My next quest is for firewall insulation fo an AC cab... that also seems to be a non exisiting part. What are you AC guys doing? Making a template and cutting one from an extra center piece or what? I did use the search tool but found no mention for either of these. Please help I need get this thing on the road and get some rock chips on my new paint! |

Both items are available from most site venders. IF not try classic muscle located in Winston -Salem NC. Those are both readily available items.

Great,
I found the boot at GMC Pauls and Tim has OEM boots...Tim I will contact you via email...but no luck with the firewall insulation for an AC cab. Anyone else have a lead on the firewall insulation? Thank's to everyone who suggested venders so far! |

Close but no..that is not the correct part for a AC cab. What I am finding is everyone has the firewall pad for non AC cabs but I want one for an AC system as the holes are different on the passenger side.

It is my understanding that there wasn't any where the heater box is, just the piece on the drivers side and the center piece. I bought new for an AC truck and it only came with those two pieces. Both fit fine. LockDoc

I believe LockDoc is right, at least the 70 ac truck I have doesn't have one.

I remember the 72 Super I sold had it glued behind the ac vent hoses. I'm not sure where you could get it other from the thousands of field mice that pulled it into their nests inside the kick panel vents over the years. Here is a pic of what I think you are speaking of.

Mine has the factory pad still in it but it's just a narrow strip that goes across the firewall above the blower box.

I would imagine a carpet padding or jute material would do the same.

Re: I need your help to put my truck back together!
Basically the answer is that whatever you want to use, just cut a narrow strip and glue it on after you put the blower box in.

Hey guys,
Thank you for the info and the pictures. I am putting together my first 72 and the PO had everything taken out so I don't have a point of refrence as to how the things go together. I believe that the picture highperf4x4 provided shows what I think to be the upper cowl pad...another pad (I need) that I was not aware of. My original questions have been answered...thanks again everyone. Anyone have important must do steps or ease of assembly pointers for putting the AC airboxes back into the cab?? |

Re: I need your help to put my truck back together!
If I was you, I would just use DynoMat. That stuff is better than the factory stuff. I installed about a million yards of that stuff in my truck (floors, gas tank, kick panels, doors). It is REALLY quiet inside now!
