Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
....That are knowledgable with 67-72 Chevy/GMC Trucks,
(Preferably Electrical)? If so please contact me via Private Message or my Private e-mail at: WWOTR@MCHSI.COM I have a qoestion, about Tailights. I don't think its too complicated, but I can't seem to get a STRAIGHT ANSWER from the Vendors, and could really use someones knowedgable input. Thanks in advance. ROGER "RATIKLE"

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
OK......
Here goes nothin. _______________________________________________________________ Kel, I was just so damn frustrated, with Vendors who sell something , but seem to know NOTHING about it. I'll try and keep this short so I don't convalude the question. I've asked a "similar" question here before, but the answers I got wern't satisfactory. I have a 72 GMC Fleetside Shortbed. I'm puting Euro (Clear) Tailights in the Rear. Now I'll be using an 1157 Bulb that is made with Red Glass, in those Lenses. My Motorcycle Vendor sells a Red Glass 1157 Bulb that is actually a higher Candle Power, than the Stock OEM Bulbs. I'm not sure what the CP (Candle Power) is on "Stock Bulb, but thought it was around 12 CP. These Bulbs are 35 CP. Will putting in these bulbs, on my GMC, Overload/Burn the wirring? Being completely a DUNCE when it comes to Wattage/Pull on an Electrical System, I would think the the higher the CP, the MORE the Draw, but is it enough to caus harm to the System? Roger "RATIKLE"

No issue, install those bulbs and enjoy, don't forget these harness's were engineered to carry a trailer and thier light load as well, the fuse will pop when the load on the ckt gets gets to high for the harness.I have been a tech here in b.c. since 87 and the last 16 years at a gm dealer...

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
that, and some of the vendors are nothing but a wall mart of vehicle parts. The people taking your order don't even know what the part is except for the photo in the catalog.

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
When I was in hight school I used to driver delivery for an auto parts store. In those days you walked in and told them what you wanted and half the time they'd run and grab the right part without even looking in the book. They just knew. They knew a helluva lot about cars. I know things have changed and cars are more complicated but a parts person isn't much of a profession any more it's more like a job at Mcdonalds.

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
Back in the olden days, there weren't that many different cars on the market as there are now. Externally they were different but internally they were basically the same.
I worked on my own vehicles since the early 60's and the changes I've seen are remarkable to say the least. These days with all of the innovations like anti-lock brakes, variable ignition, electric steering, anti-skid control, electronic sensors everywhere, it's almost impossible to know everything there is to know... |

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
I need help ALOT, and usually I will tell someone about who/what I am and then proceed to tell them about my troubles. I find that a humble approach is usually the best. I did this today when I got home. I made a call to a serp belt manufacturer, and after just a few minutes, I felt my stress level drop, and am going to get a new piece to fix one of my customers cars, hopefully. The point of this is be humble, say thanks, and help someone else. What goes around comes around. " THANKS! IT SURE IS POOR PAY, BUT ITS CASH"

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
Heres ANOTHER question...........
Does anyone know if the Park Lights Lenses on a 67-72 CHEVY are interchangable with the same year GMC? I was gonnago with the Clear Park Lenses (which they make for Chevy) but NOT for GMC. Thought I'd ask the knowedgable people here. P.S. Yes I did work at "Village Auto Supply for 5 years from 75-80 and in most cases, I COULD walk to the shelf and pull almost any of the Big 3 Auto Makers parts ?by heart". Not a CHANCE in todays Auto Market! Roger "RATIKLE"

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
Which begs the question on BOTH the Grill AND the Parklights they state for "1967-70 GMC".
Mine is a 72. Anyone know if they'll fit? Guess I should contact LMC. ![]() Roger "RATIKLE" ![]()

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
it's the same. That's a goof in there system that'll probably never get fixed.
I sent them a letter 10 years ago telling them that there VIN chart was wrong, and tehy only fixed it in the last couple years. |

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
I got a question on those "lenses" are they only lenses or the housing? I'm not sure if if would be worth it to try to put in rivets that would work in the old housing.

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
item description says lens and rivits... for 15 bucks each, I'd bet it is just that... the lens, and the rivits.

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
Well this Thread has seemed to bring out the Knowledgeable Members here, so I'm going to ask a completely unrelated question here.
I had posted this SAME question on 4/13/09 and to this day, have not gotten even 1 reply. So I'll even put a PICTURE with my question. ![]() How do you take off this gol-darn side Molding on my 72 GMC and then how do you take off the Clips that are underneath it??? It looks as though you need to take off the Inner Door Panel to get to the Nut on the backside of the Molding clip....No??? Then it looks like you have to take off (or at least loosen) the Bolts on the Inner Front Wheel Well to get to the Clips on the Front Fender??? Any Help/Easy Shortcuts or applicable "Cuss Words" would be appreciated. Roger

Re: Any gm mechanics/members on this forum?
I don't remember how I got mine off, the back cab piece has 2 nuts holding it on. Open the door and try to slide the moulding off and then try to get the clips off.
