manual to auto swap problem????????
Doing a manual to auto swap. Bolted everything together and i'm coming up an 1" short on the trans crossmember with the c/m bolted to frame (nothing is tight at this point bolts in place). Everything needs to go fwd about and 1". I have loosened all motor mounts and slid everything fwd as far as i could and still can not get the trans to mate to the crossmember. Any Ideas?? Thanks in advance

Re: manual to auto swap problem????????
What transmission are you using?
I used a 700R and had to redrill the holes for the mounts. I think I was able to use the back holes for the front of the crossmember and had to drill the back holes.

Re: manual to auto swap problem????????
V8, I-6? If V-8, is the V-8 in the correct V-8 location or is it in the I-6 location?

Re: manual to auto swap problem????????
What length tail shaft is on the 350. You may have the longer one & you need the 6" one to align with the xmember to fit in the stock location. If you have the longer shaft, you will have to redrill for the xmember to fit.
Also, does your driveshaft fit?

Re: manual to auto swap problem????????
ANy pics to share? Are you sliding the slip yoke as far in the tranny as possible, then trying to connect to the rear end? I believe 67redneck was asking what position you have the motor mounted in. some ppl mount a sbc in the I-6 position.
Pics will help 100 Fold....

Re: manual to auto swap problem????????
I'm pretty sure that thay are bb mounts. I did not know there was a difference. What do I need to change just the mount on the frame or eng mount as well?

Re: manual to auto swap problem????????
Been a long time since I've had 68 - 71 BBC engine stands... but are his on the wrong side... left for right? That'll move the engine forward a bit if I remember correctly.

Re: manual to auto swap problem????????
You may want to try switching the mounts from left to right to see if that gives you the 3/4 you need. That would be a little cheaper , and you could reuse your current bbc mounts.

Re: manual to auto swap problem???????? motor mount trouble
I have now got the trans cross member where I believe that it should be. I obtained a set of sb motor mounts and any configeration that I have tried them in does not work. The sb mounts do line up with any of the lower holes on the cross member. The postion that I have the mounts in pics is as close as I could get them. I could make it work but would have to drill new holes top and bottom. I really don't want to do that. But I really don't want to spend the rest of my life on mounting this drive train. Any help would be great.

Re: manual to auto swap problem????????
Uh fellas, those original mounts were not big block mounts.
Here are the big block mounts. Length of tailshaft has zero to do with trans mounting to the crossmember. The mount is in the same place regardless of tailshaft length. Small block mounts will mount in the three front holes without drilling. If you are having to drill holes to mount them you either have six cylinder mounts or you have them reversed left to right side. Post pictures of your small block mounts and I can tell you if they are really small block mounts. Please read this thread. I posted lots of pictures and details about identifying frame stands. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=341808
