Talking need some suspension help plz?

i have an 89 chevy SWB silverado, i was wondering what is the most amount of drop i can get away with by removing leaf springs, and what is the most i can cut out of the coils without any problems, it already has 2 inch shackles on it, but its not enough, thanx!

Re: need some suspension help plz?

I think you are going to be limited in your quest for lowering, going the route you asked about. I have a 2/4 drop (spindles/shackles/hangers) on my truck. I could go south a bit more with some springs up front and/or some different a-frames. In the rear, a 6-inch drop w/o any notch in the frame will be murder on your body. You could possibly flip your axle on to the top of the springs but I don't know if it would bottom out....thinking that it would..i.e., the C-notch. Another consideration is the angle of the rear shocks. If the angle is too severe, the ride will suffer...not so much on the straight and narrow, but on curves, dips and rough surfaces....been there.

Hope this helps. There are 5/7 drops on here that I have seen, but don't know anything about.

You shouldnt go more than 4" in the rear w/o a notch. Not a good idea to remove leafs from the pack.,,if thats what you mean?
I suppose you could cut off 1 coil but lowering coils are cheap and give a better result.

Re: need some suspension help plz?

yea, thats what i wanted, i was going to cut a coil, cause i always heard no more then one, its just a truck im driving for now, but it sits way to high for me, i want to lower it some more, i know i have heard for 73-78 removing two leaf springs is fine and it lowers it and ride is not horrible, i was just thinking it'd be the same for this 89, cause i dont want to spend any money on it if i dont have to..
