Toyota gas pedal recal info
For those that may have a Toyota model affected, and for those that do not but wonder what the heck is actually going on. I found this post from another site, and thought it was informative enough to share here.
These are links to videos on the Toyota site. They are made in a way that is easy to understand. I know I saw a link that was posted where a person said that "shim" would not work and they thought the pedal issue was a smoke screen. I was going to go through a counter study to show how it would, but this is MUCH easier. In short, on the pedal design, the harder you step on the pedal, the more force the spring would put on the friction slider if there is wear under the seat. If you look, you will see that the shim limits how much the friction pawl can rock, preventing it from locking down. It makes sense that this condition would show up when someone would "mat" the gas pedal. The other video just explains a little of the TBW technology that is common to almost every system out there, regardless of brand. I thought these facts would be good to add to the discussion here. http://www.toyota.com/recall/videos/pedalassembly.html http://www.toyota.com/recall/videos/...lecontrol.html
