You don't have to make an account, but can. It just makes things easier to edit and manage.

What's your objection to setting up an account?
I've had one for several years now, no problems/no junk mail.
Your email address is hidden in the ad either way.
Senders of email from CL can't see your email address UNLESS you respond to them.

Re: Do you have to sign up for craigslist now..

Signing up for Craigslist appears to be one of those rare times where it is actually beneficial to you, with no ill effects. Especially if you sell a lot of stuff. All your ads come up in one spot for you to manage, and you can chose to pull them or repost them whenever you want. Without an account I believe you have to go back and find the confirmation email they send you if you want to pull an ad. Otherwise you will continue to get emails long after an item has sold.

I have never gotten any spam from Craigslist by doing this. That's kind of what they are all about.

Re: Do you have to sign up for craigslist now..

I know that here, you don't have to have a CL account to post ads in some areas (like cars & trucks) but you do have to have one for other areas (like say, furniture). But there really doesn't seem to be any downside to having an account.

Re: Do you have to sign up for craigslist now..

I just started using Craigslist this year. I've posted several items and had to make an account. Sure does make it easy to have all my stuff listed in one place where I can make price changes etc..

Occasionally they will ask for a phone number to verify you are a real person. They will send a code to your phone and you enter it back in on the website. I don't think they do anything else with that information either.
