craiglist rant ---flakes and idiots

i made a deal for a chevy nova after checking out a few other cars and trucks
and hot rod roadster .so i told this guy im coming down to see the car i be there around 4 pm to roadtest and possible buy it ,so after seeing the car from pictures i made a offer to him and he agreed,so i told him after labor day,i'll come down with friend and his trailer,so im about ready to go and head on out and i get a call from saying he going to sell for the original amount that he was asking for and if i want it to come up with the difference,so i said no way we agreed on one price and now that someone else made a offer or he was just jacking me up,i put the ball in his court and told him to shove it so im out of 80 dollars from filling up my buddy caddy escalade/

Re: craiglist rant ---flakes and idiots

I'm really sorry to hear that! I had that happen to me with a Camaro - we shook on the deal, it was a Sunday so the bank wasn't open. I told him I would have the cash on Monday - then he calls and says someone else offered him more, but if I still wanted it, he would sell it to me for more. I told him the same... shove it.

Don't know why someone's word doesn't mean much these days.

Re: craiglist rant ---flakes and idiots

i've learned over the years to go with cash in hand to checkout a vehicle to prevent second thoughts like that

as a seller i've seen too many flakes and phonies that are definately going to buy have no money to put down shake on it and never show to follow thru

Next thing you know I get a call wednesday morning saying that he cant buy the bike as his wife is not letting him spend that much money on a motorcycle. I just hung up on the idiot.

Re: craiglist rant ---flakes and idiots

I had a project rock crawler 68 International Scout 800a for sale running and driving with title and everything. Guy calls and makes an offer, we agreed to the price, then he shows up with HALF of the money! Granted he had to drive 2 hours to get to me but whos problem is that? Not mine!
To make it oh so sweet he got a ticket for driving on post with out of date registration too, after I told him to have his paperwork straight since he was coming on to a military installation. That is why he said I should lower the agreed upon price. I stuck to my guns and said sorry buddy, have a nice drive back home. He actually up and left. I was practically giving the truck away at the price anyhow since we were moving.

Geeeessshhhh people these days!!

I always tell people to look at what I'm selling before making me an offer. Quentin, did you not buy the T-bucket?

My opinion is that it is bad form to negotiate a price over the phone.

Good luck on your people of craigslist search.

Re: craiglist rant ---flakes and idiots

I think it can go either way. No one is be-holden to pull anything off the market until cash has changed hands, but if I make a deal I'll stick to it and tell any late-comers that they can be in line if they want.

Last c-list purchase I made was an RV and we did agree on the deal over the phone (after having already looked at it in person) several days before the pickup time. He had a couple calls after me and put them in cue. He didn't have to but, like me, he thought it was the honorable thing to do.

When selling hand to hand I think there are 2 levels of practices to consider; honest dealings (self explanatory) and honorable dealings (basicaly being polite and respectuful.)

Honesty is mandatory but honor is not. I won't deal twice with an honest but non-honorable person if I have the choice though (can't do much about TV providers and cell hpone companies!) I won't complain about an honest but non-honorable seller because they are not required to be honorable, I'll just file my impressions of the person (&/or company) for future reference.
