Anyone here ever shorten the bed strips. The ones on my longbed are nice and I would like to reuse them on my shortbed.

Re: Aluminum trim ?
Well, I see no one has responded, so I'll put in my 2c.
I don't think it would be that easy, but it could probably work. The holes for the clips would have to line up, so I guess if they lined up, or if you drill new holes it would work. |

Re: Aluminum trim ?
The ends are tappered down to a finished edge I believe, so if you just cut the end off it won't be finifhed. Also I believe the snaps that hold the trim in can be moved to line up with any holes drilled in the truck.

Re: Aluminum trim ?
Oh, I didn't know the clips could be moved--my truck has the holes for trim, but not the trim...

Re: Aluminum trim ?
When you cut them to length, you can cut say 3/16" longer and the cut that tail section to match the profile and fold it over to close the end off.

Re: Aluminum trim ?
Not to rain on your plans to get some good trim, but my suggestion (coming from a person who has to find rare parts occasionally) would be to sell your long box trim if it is really good instead of cutting it. then you could get some decent short box stuff or some worse off long box trim and cut that. If you cut it you'll have to straighten out a portion of it anyway.
IMO, the long box trucks got more beat up due to the fact they are more practical for hauling, therefore more work was done with them, therefore the trim got more beat up, therefore restoring with good parts is more difficult. If you got some good trim for a long fleet, I'm sure you could find someone to buy it for a good price. Easier to cut bad trim and have straightened for a shortbox, than it is to add for a longbox...
