Odometer
How exactly do you change the odometer reading...I'm buying an electric gauge cluster and the odometer reading is way more than what I've got on the truck and was just wondering how I can change the new one to where the old one is...thanks fellas...

Re: Odometer
over ten years old are exempt. It isn't any different than swapping in a non-broken gauge cluster. Before anyone starts screaming its illegal Wish I could help with the question. Thought I'd throw that in there though.

Re: Odometer
How many positions are on yourold odometer as opposed to your new one? If they are the same between the 2 speedometers then you can simply disassemble the speedos far enough to swap the odometers between the 2 speedo's. Done it a few times myself. even rest one to match the proper miles on my old 74 cutlass years ago.

Re: Odometer
The one and only electronic speedometer I had in my hands, out of a 91 suburban, I never really messed with. I'm sure you know how to do it on the old mechanical styles are asking specifically on the electronic one, correct?
My suggestion would be to ask a local GM service department and see if they can point you to someone that repairs them. They'd be able to do it I bet. I like setting all mine to zeros ![]()

Re: Odometer
Nope not the Nd for the 6.2 or the turbo. I'm looking at another crew and if I get it, the 6.2 and turbo will be going in it.

Re: Odometer
Yep. BTW, it was $200 to go through a cluster. Not bad, depending on what is wrong with it. I didn't need a speedometer that bad, though.

Re: Odometer
it's a 6 digit odometer so it would be way easier to go back than forward...

Re: Odometer
Is there a little clip that holds in place like the old style?

Re: Odometer
Electronic clusters do not have the cable, so there is nothing to hook a drill to and make it move, hence "electronic". It's a sealed unit too. I'll grab photos so you know what I'm talking about Stitch.

Re: Odometer
Forgive the double post, but here is what I got. I took one part, though it does not have the cable drive part, it does look like the normal odometer once you get the unit out of the cluster.
If you know how to roll them back by hand on the old style, should be the same with these. I'm waiting on permission basically to post or make a thread on "how to" on the roll backs or whatever you want to call it. I don't want to get Josh or Liz in trouble and decided to ask first instead of beg for forgiveness after.

Re: Odometer
Very cool Randy. Thanks for the pics. I thought it should be the same as the older cable driven ones.

Re: Odometer
Yes a cable driven one,not electronic, and one with less numbers is easier. But with a variable speed drill, with a lock on low it should be like hands free. Not everyone is able to take it apart, but i thought this would be the easiest way.Because lining up the numbers is the hardest part.
