Well my uncle came over on Saturday and we took 12 inches out from under the cab using the lap method then we dimond plated the frame using the section cut out from the frame. I just want to make sure, I cut 8 inches off the back ? I am not to sure it looks really close to the shackle . I just want someone to confirm. Thanks .

I've never shortened a frame, but don't they take 12.5" out under the cab. And 8" out back?

I guess ebfabman doesn't think a half inch will matter.
I just offered what what info I knew about it. I'd just use a swb frame myself. GMCPaul can tell you for sure. ------------------

I know. no prob
But if it's a half inch too long, won't it cause problems with the bed mounting brackets/stands and where the bed sits? I don't have the skill do shorten a frame. So I bought one, someday I'll do something with it. ------------------

Beats the crap outa me.
I just offered up what I have heard. It may very well be 12 under the cab and 8 off the back. And you lost me 69. Are you saying you only need to remove a total of 12" to make a longbed into a short? I just remember the 12.5 and 8 numbers That is the extent of my knowledge on cinverting a long to a short. Where's the guys that actually know for sure??? It ain't me. ![]() ------------------

Well you do need to take 8" off the back end,but a short wb truck is 115",& a lwb is 127"........so the difference is 12",so that comes out of the middle to get the wheel base right(center of front axle to center of rear axle)......69 longhorn.

measured it once and cut it twice and its still too short!

Hey I dont really know how to post pics I dont have a digital cam either. we marked the frame ou t where we wanted to cut it then stood the frame on it side and cut it with a cutting disk on a grinder. the cutting part worked really well as did the rest also we used 4 axel jacks 2 at the front and 2 at the back of the frame we clamped together using 2 chunks of angle iron and about 15 vise grips and a pile of C clamps to get the frame tight together I used come alongs hooked on to the front cab support and the hanger for the leaf springs. we used a Lincon SP 125 mig welder with argon gas the welds were awesome oh we dimond plated the inside too.
