Re: v8 engine stands
I thought that the 6cyl towers worked with the ls swap. They just put the engine back further.

Re: v8 engine stands
6cyl stands work very well and place the engine back about as far as you can. I used the #2 plates in the adapter plate section here with the 6cyl stands. Headers have plenty of clearance. good luck with the build.

Re: v8 engine stands
When I started my swap, I assumed (dumb) that I had v8 stands/perches because my truck had been converted to a 355/auto years before....
Turns out I had the 6cyl perches. On the I6 perches in stock position, with adapter plates, the rear coils hit the firewall. I didn't want to spend $80-150 on something like that...so I just put the i6 perches into the front set of bolt holes and used rosette welds to secure it, then welded a seam around the edge. Ya its permanent, but its not like I'm going to un-swap the truck.

Re: v8 engine stands
So what is the difference in the 6 cyl and the 8 cylinder stands. I also have my coilpavks on the rear of my heads so i need around 4.75 inches to be not slam up against the firewall.

Re: v8 engine stands
If i buy some v8 stands from someone how do i know the difference so we don't assume they are just because they came from a truck with a v8 like BR3W CITY said?

Re: v8 engine stands
What i mean is i can move my 250 stands to the forward holes and mount them and might have to drill just the lower hole in the crossmember.

Re: v8 engine stands
You can kinda see what I did in my build on page 2. I pulled them to the forward position and drilled some new holes. Get some nice thick grade 8 hardware (i upsized my bottom bolt and enlarged the lower holes) and some nice beefy washers and nylocks. Its tough, but if you have a friend hold the nylock and washer in place with a wrench from the bottom, you can drop the bolt in from the top and mount it down.
I chose to weld the top of my perches just because I didn't want to deal with drilling more holes etc etc.
