Re: 87 dash speakers replacement advice
Any 3.5" speaker should work.

Re: 87 dash speakers replacement advice
chose wisley.... i bought some cheap kickers for the left and right side of the dash. $45.00 for the pair and i wish i'd spent just a bit more for better quality.

Re: 87 dash speakers replacement advice
I stuck Kenwood in mine... I was pleased. Also look into doing the rear if you are wanting to upgrade them.

Re: 87 dash speakers replacement advice
You can squeeze a 4" speaker in there if you want, should have a bit better selection.

Re: 87 dash speakers replacement advice
I put 6x9 Pioneer speakers on my 87. Put them behind the seat. They are 400 watt. I can't hear in one ear, but they will be loud enough. They don't hit the seat and they are bolted down.

Re: 87 dash speakers replacement advice
try the JBL or Polk Audio and you wont be disappointed. 4" with a 6x9 in the middle, just takes a lil-messaging but easy to do. I added a pair of 6x9's to each door which sounds "SWEET" on a 4ch amp

Re: 87 dash speakers replacement advice
Yeah I took a bunch of extra pictures that he requested... he was happy... and put a deposit down on it. Sunday it should be on its way home to Canada. I wouldn't say I'm 'out' of the squares... I do love them. But I'm looking at the early 60's Impalas, late 50's autos with the fins, etc.

Re: 87 dash speakers replacement advice
well this thread came along at just the right time, my left dash speaker is out. I want to replace all four with some half decent middle of the road stuff, I'm not into loud music but I need something better than the crap I've got. I want a stereo too, but all the ones I've looked at are modern, and I have no idea how to install one where this one has the two posts that hold it on. Anyone know where to find an older style radio or how to mount one without having to sawzall the dash apart?

Re: 87 dash speakers replacement advice
I'm not really even concerned about classic looks, just the ability to mount it in the three-hole dash I've got without cutting. But, I'll cut it if I have to, but I dont know if that would even help.
I've also got a similar issue with my 94. I'd like to put a CD player in it, but it's got that wierd double din dash thing, then the eq over in the middle. I've looked at length and not found an install kit that applies to my particular year. They go all around it but dont address mine. I vaguely remember a friend putting a radio in an 89 and he had to put it in the center of the dash. I could do that if it had a remote, then just attach the remote to the steering wheel.. I don't really want to get too involved here, like I said I dont care about a big powerful system, in fact I'd be happy with a stock system but I'd like to be able to play CDs and my ipod. Just seems like I've lucked into two vehicles with less=popular systems to replace. I do have the ability to swap a radio and replace speakers. Least I like to think so.

Re: 87 dash speakers replacement advice
You can find an older shaft style radio if you don't want to cut the dash. Some of the late 80s early 90s were pretty decent before they changed over to the din style, I had a pioneer that had preouts and a jvc that had cd changer controls.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PIONE...fAudioQ5fVideo For the 94 the radio will get mounted in the center of the dash with a kit like this. http://cgi.ebay.com/Chevy-GMC-Pickup...item5d2ecf590f |

I emailed HiFi Connections and ask for instruction on how to install the kit.
