Wideside72 is gonna be a dad!
I found out my wife Becky an I (Steve) are going to be a dad (first time) last week! My wife and I talked about "waiting til we could afford it". We are both 37 y.o, and dated for 5 yrs before we got married, so we thought that that would never happen (affording it) and we are not getting any younger. I was out of work from a lay off from June- right before Christmas, and then had to take a lower paying job. Even though I was off work for a while, we still have some $$$ saved, she has a decent job, mortgage is only $600, we have a rental property for extra $$$ and only one car payment, so we decided we better get busy! BTW, you guys need to pony up and buy some of the stuff I have for sale on the parts forum!!!

Congratulations! I think waiting is the best thing to do anyway. My wife & I were married 15 years before we had ours. I think having kids when your older keeps you young!

I guess you have less than 9 months to finish your projects. I now I have 2 little ones and all my projects got put on halt, when we started paying for day care. OOh well being a dad is the best thing that ever happened to me, so congrats on the little truck lover...

Re: Wideside72 is gonna be a dad!
First off, congrats!
Kids are great, with or without money... My first was born 6 1/2 years ago when I was making $8/hr and the wife was not working... since then the money has increased (and so has the bills) so it feels like there is less money now, especially with 2 kids (the youngest is 13 months old now). You learn to make do with what you have and cut back the extra expenses... like switching to basic cable 20 channels instead of having all 500 channels, switching to basic phone service at $22 a month instead of the full package at $40 a month, switching to the lower cost high speed internet (most companies have a $20-25 rate now) so no need for the $55/mo premium package, buying more meals to make at home instead of going out so much, renting movies (or getting Netflix) instead of going to the theater, buying stuff at discount stores instead of the expensive stuff at name brand stores... you will realize that by cutting back now, you can get a bit better crib, mattress, sheets, dresser, changing table, and so on. It is amazing how fast the bills pile up so sometimes it is better to cut back on this stuff when pregnant... then as the pay and other things gets better, go up from there. From information I have seen and learned, it is more difficult for a couple in their mid to late 30s to start having kids than it is for most people starting in their 20s. This is because they are used to a specific level of comfort and lifestyle. Some say "I know how to handle it" but until you actually have your own kids, you really have no clue. Watching your nephews for a weekend or babysitting for the neighbor is nowhere close to how things go with your own kid(s). Dealing with the black diapers at first, then the green and all different colors you see in diapers through the years you think is bad... then when they start preschool and regular school, you see the $20-40 a month for diapers was the easy part, paying for school clothes that get more expansive as they get older and so on up the line... Enjoy the little one while you can...

Re: Wideside72 is gonna be a dad!
Congratulations! A wise old man (my Dad) once told me you can raise as many young'uns as you want on as little as you make, but if you have even just one it will take everything you make to raise him. Which boils down to your gonna be broke if you have young'uns.

Re: Wideside72 is gonna be a dad!
Congrats, Whens the due date. They're alot of fun, even when they are fussy.
I have, will be 3 months old the 23rd this month. And he is a blessing . I wouldn't give him up for the world now that I have him. I was the same as you. I wanted to wait until we were more financally set. That'll never happen, so the rest is history.

Re: Wideside72 is gonna be a dad!
The due date is October 17th. I am hoping for a boy, as I have four nieces (and no nephews). I am the youngest of four boys and my brothers aren't having any more kids, so it is up to me to carry on the family name (Dacke) as my cousins were all girls. If it is a boy, my wife and I decided to name him John Harold, after my uncle who died in WWII at age 19 in 1945 three months before the war was over. No pressure, right? I will still be ecstatic if it is a girl, though.
