camaro parts
I don't know much about suspension parts but am hoping to learn. I saw in the newspaper a 1970 camaro for sale that had disc brakes all around and a posi rearend, but the body was shot. Is it in anyway possible to make the frontend parts and/or the rearend fit under my 69. If it is possible would it take a lot of custom work? I am sorry if this question sounds stupid, and if it is, at least I don't have to be face to face with anyone when they laugh at me LOL.

I don't know about the rear but the front, i would think would be to lite for our trucks. for front disks find a 73-75 suburban. you can pull the whole thing from the ball joints and just replace the ball joints in your truck to match the year suburban you take them from. the tricky part for me was the hoses.

The reason I wondered about this was because I saw the whole car for sale for $400 dollars and it said it Had a posi with four wheel discs, but it had no engine or tranny and the body was shot. So I figured that a good posi alone is worth at least $300. I am setting up my truck to be lowered some and am putting in a small block, I wouldn't use the truck for hauling, would the front still be too light?

I think there is too much of a difference in the spindle hieght to even get it to work correctly. There rear discs should bolt on with out too much fabbing.
If the car is only $400 why not buy the brake kit from GMCpauls for around 500. and that comes with 2.5 drop spindles.

The first gen Camaros are a trailing steering arm setup while the second gen is a leading steering arm. No way to make this work. The A bodies (Chevelle, skylark, cutlass) use the same disc brake parts as a first gen camaro, but they have the bolt on steering arms swapped side to side because they are a leading steering arm setup. It is possible to put the second gen camaro parts on the a body with a set of custom aftermarket ball joints. You can do the A body brakes (69-72) easily on a first gen by swapping the steering arms side to side. The second gen Camaro spindle is a one piece assembly with the steering arms not removeable.
The rear axle is wider than the first gen, but it is possible to swap in. I've done a couple of 8.5" posi second gen axles in first gen cars. Requires a torch to get the old brackets off, an angle finder to setup pinion angle relative to the perches, and a reasonably powerful welder to re-attach. In other words, unless their are some other parts you can use on the car, you are better off getting a 68-74 X body (Nova, ventura, apollo) for its disc brakes and rear axle. The X body sometimes had a mult-leaf 8.5" 10 bolt that will bolt right in to a first gen Camaro. It is an excellent axle, but the 8.2 is a POS. 73-74 are the best bet for 8.5 and disc brakes. The 75 and up X bodies use second gen camaro parts.
