how to remount the back-up switch on a tilt (van)column??

tried to ask this question b-4....w/ individual who sold it to me....but he ain't got time i guess. problem: the back-up switch that is located on the column needs to be mounted lower on the column....but the slot that the plastic "prong" of the switch rests in a groove in the inner portion of the column itself.i can do some dremel work and make a slot in the column's outer shell..but what is the solution to the groove that needs to be in the inner column's rod length?would like to retain the use of my back-up lights if at all possible............on another note, if anybody out there offers help w/ tech. questions and won't respond to an e-mail or a p.m. JUST DON'T MAKE THE OFFER TO HELP! 'nuff said.
