Fuse Panel Removal

How is the fuse panel removed? After you remove the screws on the inside of the cabe does it pull off? Does the wireing harnes from under the hood need to be removed? Any pics of one removed would help.

Re: Fuse Panel Removal

Yes, before removing it from the inside, the cab harness must be unplugged from the engine/light harness' under the hood.

Re: Fuse Panel Removal

To take the harness loose under the hood remove the one screw in the middle then pull out.

Re: Fuse Panel Removal

Is there a replacement fuse panel that uses the blade style fuses and is it worth changing out? Thanks.

That would be way cool if somebody did that, and also added about 5-6 more circuits

I just got my Painless harness in today and it looks awesome. It has the updated blade fuse panel and bolts to the firewall similar to the stock setup. I am sure It will be nice to know that my wiring is not all chopped up and to not have to worry about if my tail lights are working or not

It is an 18 circuit specifically for 67-72 GM Trucks

The left is the fuse panel and the right is the front lights/engine harness

Re: Fuse Panel Removal

Is changing the fuse panel out as easy as it looks? I mean just remove, plug in the new one and mount?

Nope, all of the inside wiring in attached to it, I believe it is all soldered to the fuse block. If you take it out, so too comes the rest of the wiring. Ron Francis wiring has just the fuse block itself for sale if thats what you need....The blade style fuses Here is the link

Fuse Panel Removal....how?????

OK...I used the search function and went all the way back to 2005 for this thread. I am working on my wife Gails stock 1969 C-10 and want to remove the under dash fuse panel.

What do I need to do? Anybody got any simple steps? I have a clear shot at it and don't see any screws or hex heads to unscrew. Do I unscrew the engine compartment side and the fuse panel will pull off the firewall? I just don't want to go medevil on it and break something.

Of all the work that I have done on her rtuck and my '72 K5, this has me stumped? I'm sure that it is simple........

Thanks...Rick

There is 1 screw in the center of the plug on the engine compartment side of the firewall, remove it and unplug the plug on the firewall side. Sometimes the plug is difficult to get unplugged due to paint/undercoating/age. If you plan on using the wiring harness over be careful to not pull any of the wires out of the plug.

In the passenger's compartment side of the firewall, the fuse block has 2 screws kitty-corner from each other. Remove the 2 screws and the fuse block will come free of the firewall. Sorry, no pictures.

Re: Fuse Panel Removal

Thanks Randy. That was concise and clear. Just what I needed. The engine compartment harness is new, so the plugs will come out easily. I'll get it done tommorrow in the daylight.

Thanks again...Rick

The screws on the inside take a 1/4" socket or nut driver and one of them is usually under one of the plug in flashers.
