RIP: my 305 V6
I feel sad.
Tore it down and it spun a bearing and the cam is very worn. Just can't spend the money to rebuild it when I don't plan on keeping it. Parts are expensive and some are hard to find. If I had another crank and cam I might think about doing it but 170hp at 3000rpm and 8mpg? It's a novelty engine.

I hear you- I was bummed when mine died. Haven't had the heart to pull it apart yet.

I'm going to hang the valve covers on the wall and the rest is going to the scrapper.

Re: RIP: my 305 V6
You could try to sell some parts off of it before you scrap it.

Re: RIP: my 305 V6
WAIT don't scrap it. What intake do you have? Dual Barrle? Many guys need that to make the conversion. DO you have the spin on adaptor oil filter set up? Oil pan will be needed. Heads are probaly still good. Stick it in the back most corner of the garage and hold it.
Contact Jolly's group (if not a member) and lket them know. Jake

Re: RIP: my 305 V6
The biggest problem with selling V6 parts (besides low demand) is the weight. I think the whole package weighs around 850 lbs, and even broken down the components are heavy. Not much of a problem if a local buyer can be found, but shipping this stuff would be killer.
When I pulled my 305 back in 1991 I found nobody interested in the engine. It was almost completely disassembled just so we could manage loading the parts for the trip to the dumps. Last edited by markeb01; 11-03-2011 at 12:20 PM. |

Re: RIP: my 305 V6
I agree with Jake. Contact Jolly and see if anyone is interested. If not, I say scrap the block and keep everything else anyways because you never know.

Re: RIP: my 305 V6
It needs a cam, crank, lifters, water pump, timing chain, rings, honing, all new gaskets, and a valve grinding. I'll probably keep everything but the block like said above. It does have the 2bbl intake and I have the breather can and filter, which are hard to find I guess. Maybe when I have more time I'll put stuff up for sale.
