Hog Wild pulling truck

so, i bought another piece of pulling history from my area. hog wild pulled up and down the west coast in the 80's and was one of the top pullers in its class. back in the day, it had a 440/727 set up in it. i am going to drop a 454/400 combo into it and take it back out onto the track. here are some pics of it form back in the day.

and now

Re: Hog Wild pulling truck

it would be a massive amount of work to make it street legal again, but it could be done. with the history it has in our area, i couldnt do it lol. she needs to go down the track again, just with chevy power and not dodge power ha ha

NICE. Nothing beats an original. A former boss now friend of mine just bought an old monster truck. I would love to own a REAL old school ride like yours, good find.

Re: Hog Wild pulling truck

This is the one he picked up, I'm not sure if it has the same body or not, but I'm pretty sure he's putting it back this way. He bought an old ford pick up a while back, and is looking for a truck bed like this for the rebuild.

Re: Hog Wild pulling truck

I've always loved truck and tractor pulls, growing up we never missed them, they were held in the winter at the state fairgrounds indoor stadium, I'll never forget the sounds and smells, probably stupid but I wasn't one to hold my ears, it was so awesome to be able to feel the engines roaring through the seats, and how cold it would get when they'd open the doors to let the trucks in or turn on the exhaust fans.
Yea, I miss it.

That is rad man! I want to build a puller so bad. There use to be an early 50's willys 2wd puller down here with a 525 caddy. That thing would haul!

Re: Hog Wild pulling truck

been slowly making progress on the old girl. cut a lot of the old stuff out, removed old wiring, cooling system, and fuel tank. been grinding and sanding on the frame so i can lay some primer on it so when the time comes it can get a coat of black.

Re: Hog Wild pulling truck

been pluggin away at the old girl over the last few days. cut the old motor mounts and wheelie bars off, cleaned up all of the welds and slag from many years ago, welded in some adjustable wheelie bars, shot primer on the frame and bed floor. started on the inside of the cab today, pulled the old seats and brackets out, pulled the carpeting that was in there out, pulled the gauge panel out, pulled one of the steel plates that make up the floor out to do some work on it, cut the "tower'' the master cylinders were on out so i can re-work it and lots and lots of cleaning.

Re: Hog Wild pulling truck

You've been busy!! I really feel for you when it comes time to paint it, because those old Econolines were 100% painted in color from the factory. No areas to hide with door panels, carpet, or trim pieces. I see a lot of sanding in your future!

It might be worth considering to send it out and have it blasted. I look at all the nooks and crannys in the interior and I can't imagine how long it would take to sand that by hand.

Love the truck, and I always look forward to seeing more pictures and progress!

Re: Hog Wild pulling truck

ha ha, yeah i know what you mean about the paint on the econolines. luckily, i actually live across the road from a body shop so i might see if they would be interested in shooting the paint on it when the time comes. if they say yes, i am so gonna drive it over there
