Pollution Pipe/Spider Removal
Friend of mine has a 86 with those unsightly pipes on the manifolds, We don't have emissions testing. The air pump seized the other day and he wants to strip all that crap off.
I have line wrenches and crow-feet but haven't tried yet, Are there any tricks to getting these fittings out easier ? Thanks....

Penetrating fluid of some sort. Not sure if this will work for you, but If you don't want to save the lines, cut the lines off flush with the top of the fitting and use a 6 point socket on the fittings.

Re: Pollution Pipe/Spider Removal
I was going to remove the lines on my '85. That is, until I discovered they were not going to come out of the manifolds by using any method (penetrating oil, heat, nothing worked). So I pulled the manifolds to see what I might could do differently. I then discovered that the fittings these things screw into occupy about 30-40% of the internal opening in the primary tubes of the manifolds. So I went with a set of headers. Never regretted it, and would do it again without reservation.
