front suspension changes 67-72 to 74-87
Can anyone tell me if the 74-87 C10 has an improved front suspension & brakes over the 67-72?
What are the physical differences? What are the handling differences? Thanks for your help. |

Quote:
Rubber bushings in a shell vs rubber lined steel sleeve offered more isolation for a smoother ride & less vibration being transmitted to passangers. Bump stops are slightly different because of the slightly different spindles for drum vs disc applications. Handling? While the post-72 bushings offer a smoother ride quality, they also will flex more meaning slop/give vs precise alignment when pushed in corners.

Thanks for the info.
Does anyone know if it is possible to swap 73+ control arms, spindles, & disk brakes on a pre 72 C10? Thanks |

Thanks for the info.
Are the front tracks different or the same? Can someone tell me what the front track is for each range of years? Thanks |

Re: front suspension changes 67-72 to 74-87
I have sold 50 73up disc brake setups for the 67-72 trucks. The best and easiest IMO is to unbolt the engine crossmember (with all of the suspension/brakes) off the 73 frame and bolt it onto your 67-72 frame. You will have to drill a couple of holes to get all 7 on each side fastened. If you don't care about the upgraded bushings, use a 71-72 disc setup on your 67-70.

Will the front track remain the same when the cross member is replaced?
Thanks |

Re: front suspension changes 67-72 to 74-87
6x-70 drum front ends to 71-87 disc get wider. 71-72 disc to 73-87 disc front ends there's no change. The disc spindles & hardware causes an increase vs the drum set-up.
