oem chrome Chevy script valve covers.

Anyone know how to tell if the v/c that I have are OEM? I know it came off a 67 chevelle with a 327, and I know they were a option for that car/year. Thanks!

Re: oem chrome Chevy script valve covers.

I don't think so. I got them used from a Guy who was tearing down his 67 chevelle.

Re: oem chrome Chevy script valve covers.

The leak test is the most important question!!!

Kidding aside, they very well may have been from Chevelle since chrome dress was stock for that engine.

The pics in that article are hard to see, but I do see chrome valve covers and the caption says that a chrome air filter was stock (I never knew that). I have some other books at my disposal but don't have the time right now to look it all up.

Re: oem chrome Chevy script valve covers.

Thank you! My dilemma is I am looking to find a new home for these and I didn't want to chance this becoming a wiw thread. Sadly I can't afford the sell em here, though this is ideal. But I was looking to see if there was a sure fire way to make sure these were genuine GM before I start the process. I didn't know if GM put a stamp somewhere I can't see. Thanks all! Btw ,this is not a wiw/fs post. :-)

I haven't dealt with any chrome ones, but I have cleaned/repainted a few sets of old original Chevrolet script valve covers for a few different engines.

One thing I noticed on them is what appears to be an "O" stamped on the top of the gasket flange. About mid way between the two bolt holes on the side that faces the intake.

I can't say for sure that the presence/absence of that stamp would be conclusive proof of original vs. repro but I have a feeling that reproductions would likely be missing a subtle little detail like that.
