Body filler mixing problems

Guys, I am in a heck of a situation. I cannot mix filler worth a cobbler's darn. Either it never hardens OR it turns into a cinderblock while I'm mixing it. Just can't get it right. I have wasted a gallon so far and can't get it right. I cannot go by color, as I am colorblind. I looked at a 3M Dynamic system, but 450.00 is just not in the stars. Is there a manufacturer out there that maybe makes a less fancy manual dispensing system like the 3M one that mixes for you that is affordable? A hundred or so is ok, but I can't do 450.

Re: Body filler mixing problems

100/1 mix. In the summer time this is going to need to be less. FAR less.

In fact, I use maybe baseball size to the size of a pea. Just drop your hardner back, .. it sounds like you're using too much. If it's right you should have about 60-80 seconds smooth work time before it starts to get gummy.

What type of filler are you using?

Duraglass. It works great when mixed right,... my nephew comes over and mixes for me, but he lives 2 hrs away and I got to learn this cause it wont be long before I become "That Pain" in his butt.

Re: Body filler mixing problems

If you try Evercoat Rage Gold lightweight filler, you can take a 4" blob of it about 3/4 inch thick, then run a line of hardener across the blob and start weaving the mixutre back and forth with a spreader.

Would give you about 4 to 5 minutes set up time to apply it on the panel.

Re: Body filler mixing problems

If you are stirring like you would a cake batter, then you are introducing uneeded air into the filler[think of air whipped frosting] The air that has been put in will aid in making of pinholes that you don't need so th back and forth or the figure "8" way is a good way to minimize the whipping. You should stick with it until you get your mixing ratios right lay you a strip of hardner along the filler remembering the above said 100 to 1 proportions. Also your filler may just be "bad" or old

Re: Body filler mixing problems

Try the rage gold or rage extreme. I like extreme better.

I think you'll be really happy with it. I hear the quantum1 is really good too but i havent tried it personally.
