Whats The Difference Between These Cans ?

These are two Blitz Cans for containing Gas and Diesel that I have shown here below..One says it is for gas and the other says it is for diesel.

I own a red one and would not part with it as its the best pouring gas I ever owned. thinking of buying a couple more ..

The red one costs as much as $4.00 to $6.00 more than yellow one ..except for color,,they are not made out of anything different from each other that I can tell ,,(reason for discussion )

So, all I have to do is paint the letters GAS on both sides of the yellow can and therefore save money ,or dont paint anything on it ,,as I know whats in it and I am the only one thats uses my fuel cans for anything at my home..(wife cooks ,I take care of gassing things up,,,LOL) I do not use diesel at my residence ,,and never had a yellow can for diesel ever .. didnt even know they had colors for fuel?? (where have I been you say?) I dont know but I never knew it..

Was wondering what the forum guys and gals would do if they wanted to buy another gas can and had this dilimma to deal with,,LOL

I don't know about the color thing Larry, but I would def. change the label to GAS. What if something happened to you and some of the family came over to help "clean the place up" or whatever, and poured some "Diesel" out of the "Yellow" can on the brush pile to help get the fire going. This is just an off the wall scenario but I think about that kind of stuff all the time... Might be a terrible ending for a couple of bucks savings.

Re: Whats The Difference Between These Cans ?

They have green also,it's for Kerosene.I usually buy the color for the fuel, just so if anyone else ever uses it........

Check with NT they usually have a good deal on them.

Re: Whats The Difference Between These Cans ?

The color code thing began as a standard for delivery purposes. Then, they passed it on to containers. I believe it's a law (whether enforced or not) that, other than being an approved container for fuel, that the can must be labeled for which fuel it contains. Screw the law (),that's what I do anyway. It just makes sense. I still prefer the good old galvanized metal containers. Most are either unpainted or red. I used paint sticks to label "GAS" and "MIX" on the two red 2.125 gal. Eagle cans I have. I have a blue 5 gal. Eagle can for Kerosene that I peeled a K-1 sticker off a pump that was being replaced, and a red 5 gal. w/spring latched top for diesel that I painted "DIESEL" on with the paint stick.
I had an old friend staying in a spare room here and working for me a while back. He didn't have a license or tags on his truck. He'd go out and run it every now and then and listen to the radio. He got his license back and moved on in spring. The next fall I was cutting firewood and my saw seized up...scored piston/cyl. That S.O.B. must have used my 50:1 (although labeled) in his truck and replaced it with straight gas! So,there ain't no idiot-proof when it comes to idiots. He cost me a lot of money with that move! Good riddance!!

Re: Whats The Difference Between These Cans ?

If I do find a yellow can like mentioned above I will make sure it's marked Gas on both sides and with large letters. My gas can for my chain saw, weedeater are labled Mix Gas ..I was surprised to learn that this gas can made by Blitz is American made and sold at Wal-Mart.. not sure where at as not all stores carry the same items..

Re: Whats The Difference Between These Cans ?

In my area, Blue is for Kerosene. It is just an "at a glance" identifier. No special harm will come from using the wrong color. Forgetting what you put in it and not labeling could bring the suck.

Re: Whats The Difference Between These Cans ?

Our company safety guy says it's a OSHA rule to have the cans color coded, (but I never have bothered to look that up) but the point here would be moot, because plastic containers are contrary to OSHA rules.

Re: Whats The Difference Between These Cans ?

I personally use the proper container for the appropriate fuel, mostly in case if tragedy strikes and I have to have firefighters save my butt, I'd want them to know exactly what they're dealing with. Same reason I keep all of my pressurized containers (spray paint, WD-40, brake clean, carb spray, etc etc etc) in a closed, metal shelving unit, clearly labeled as such.

This is a good post right here.

Papa, I see where you're coming from on saving the money where you can. At our place we have to watch who puts what in what so the appropriate color can really helps the lazys.

Re: Whats The Difference Between These Cans ?

Well,, the consensus here is just about 100% for Labeling the can if it is not the correct color for what ever you store in it,, thx for the replies...guys . Which reminds me I go to find my "Mixed Gas Label" for my blue 1 gallon can ..

And always remember, inflammable is NOT the opposite of flammable!

Of course I read that in the dictionary. How else would you find out?

This very thing happened to a friend of mine 2 weeks ago. He now gets to go to the burn unit every 2 weeks for the next couple of months for wound cleaning. His fingers on his left hand are still triple their normal size and he has a place on his leg their still worried about infection in. He was really lucky he wasn't hurt more.

Wink Re: Whats The Difference Between These Cans ?

As a fire fighter here at the Nuclear plant we respect all rules and regulations when it comes to fires. Fire cabinets are inspected monthly here by us. All flamable stuff is in these cabinets and marked.
I would go with the right color can even if it is a little more expensive for the purpose of keeping other family members safe. Safety is our #1 job to our families!

fishingjred73,
sorry to hear about your friend.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
