Re: Painting question
Depending on color, I try not to spray if over 85%. But there have been hard times or times when I was really up against the clock and have painted and it was raining[some like it cause the dust threat is lower at that time] and it not seem to make much difference. I think it is more detrimental on a single stage paint than a dual staged one. In the past, the single staged type paints would have a tendency to turn a chalkly [er] color when painted in a high humidity situation. Jim

Re: Painting question
Spray it [and blame me if it does'nt turn out ok, no, don't do that] I say your gonna be okay. What color are you going with anyway? Like I said before the upside to doing it in the rain is the thrash in the air is knocked WAAAY down and makes for a lots cleaner paintjobs. I know that when my filters are dirty in my paintbooth I get a cleaner job if it is raining as it rains the dust out of the air. Jim

Re: Painting question
I've done a little work in a hot garage in about 80%+ humidity, and its tough for a couple reasons.
It gets hot and steamy, and you risk condensation forming on stuff and/or ending up on your paint, and if you don't have a really big compressor that doesn't have to run often...you'll find that your comp pushes lots of water, and you'll be emptying both the on-tank and inline water separators often

Re: Painting question
The main reasons I have troubles painting with humidity, I am way too heavy[acutally I am the perfect weight for someone who is 8'7"] I am on medications that make me sweat and my booth is a metal box inside a metal shop so it is about 10 to 25 degrees hotter than the outside air sometimes. All of those thing combine to make my main problem possible sweat dripping on the surface but this happens any time the temp is over about 70 degress. Anything over 80 and I have to change clothes at lunch and hotter still I have to take as many as 5 or 6 showers daily. Dang. See you just think you got problems till you hear someone elses then you think man I'm glad I am not him. well, your welcome . Now go spray and have fun. Jim

Re: Painting question
I think the humidity did mess you up. Take an 80 grit DA to it. Nah, just messin it looks good. I don't think you could tell any weather problems from looking at that truck. Like I said in an above post, it is an old wives tale mostly devoted to single stage paints and that does have some effects on weather when painting but not as much on the basecoat/clearcoat type. Good job. Jim

Re: Painting question
not an old wives tale exactly...if you shot old school lacquer 40 years ago the stuff dried so quickly moisture couldnt evaporate out before it flashed.the condition was called blushing ,the paint dried with a cloudy white haze in it that wouldnt buff out.enamels dried slower and werent affected...modern urethanes dont seem to have problem but i'm still paranoid...I would caution anyone using duplicolors quarts of lacquer that they might have problems, but don't know cause i've never shot duplicolor
