Putting together a "New" 20 year old drill press - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

In the early 90's my father had a storage unit that was burglarized and everything inside was stolen. The insurance company went to Sears and sent a Sears truck to the house filled with replacement tools.

Long story short the majority of the tools were put together and used over the past 20+ years but my father had no initial need for the brand new drill press and never got around to putting it together and now it is in my shop. I have all the parts and am now playing jigsaw puzzle with a "brand new" 20 year old 17" Craftsman drill press that over the years the manual has come up missing! LOL

I will let you guys know how it goes but so far it hasnt been too difficult but I cant wait to get it together and begin using it!

Just a thought but you might be able to find a owners manual online somewhere.

I have searched for two days and the only place I can find that has one is the craftsman site and they want $10.03 before shipping... Thinking I can get it together without spending the money, it isnt too complicated! LOL

If your going old school, get yourself a machinest cross slide vise, you then own an antique milling machine

Make sure you line the two wheels up vertically and the adjustable blade guide to just touch the back of the blade and you will be in business. I was given a craftsman bandsaw ten years ago( it's from circa 1950) it still runs great for the light duty work. Have fun! Cheers, Pat
