swapping I6 to V8...what about the clutch bracket?
I am switching from an I6-250 to a V8-350. I have an manual 4-spd SM465/NP205 combo. The I6 has two threaded holes to mount the clutch bracket (one end, the other end supported by a frame bracket)..pix below. How do I deal with this clutch bracked on the SBC?

Re: swapping I6 to V8...what about the clutch bracket?
I think you need to find V8 stuff, including the bracket that is riveted to the frame. I also believe that the V8 set-up is easier to find than the I6 set-up at a junk yard, so it may not be too big a deal to find what you need.

Re: swapping I6 to V8...what about the clutch bracket?
When doing this swap, I always use one of these...
http://www.classicparts.com/1963-84-.../#.UOLSiazm7f0 It screws into the hole on the block. The z-bar slides onto it. I have seen one block in the past that had a flat spot where the pivot ball hole should be and i had to drill and tap it. This was a late model block though. All of the early ones I have ever seen had the hole already there and tapped for the ball to screw in to. |

Re: swapping I6 to V8...what about the clutch bracket?
Thanks for the link. With that ball stud, can I still use the OE bracket riveted to the frame? Given this clutch bracket issue, I guess this is another strong reason not to shift the V8 forward.
Any one have a photo of this area with all the brackets? Quote:

Re: swapping I6 to V8...what about the clutch bracket?
Don't have a pic but I am in the midst of changing my '71 4x4 sm465/np205 over to an auto 350TH/np205. I know I have the frame bracket, bell crank (z-bar) and engine side ball stud in the parts shed. Can look later today and get a pic if interested. Since this is a message forum I won't post prices and such but I had planned on putting it on the parts board later this week.
