My '67 LWB currently has a V8 sitting in the straight six spot. Has a long tail TH350 behind it. I'm putting a disc brake crossmember under it and I want to move the motor up to the the V8 mounting holes. So what motor tranny setup do I need to look for that will have the right length driveshaft. Andrew

You've got the right setup now. Just move that engine up to the V8 holes and have a 65" driveshaft built.
I run a V8, TH350 long tail and a 65" shaft. You'll want to relieve the crossmember at the bottom just a bit. Otherwise it will hit when the truck is raised on a lift. |

What's the difference in driveshaft length going from a TH400 to a TH350? I also don't know the difference between long tail and short, so if someone could help me out here... I'm thinking about swapping out the TH400 to a TH350 for some extra horsepower, but I don't know all the details. Thanks

I want to get a two piece from a junkyard truck and was wondering what to tranny and motor setup it would need to have or had in it to be the right lenght for what I need, since these trucks came with short tail shafts in them. Would a 3spd be the right lenght? Andrew

There are 3 length turbo 350"s 6", 9" and 12" tailshaft. The 6" is the same size as most 3&4 speeds and the 200R4 trans. The 9" is the same size as a 700R4. The 12" is used in pickups and full size Gm cars.

It's close but you still might need driveshaft work. The short tail 350 overall length is 27 5/8 and the 400 is 28 1/4.

a T400 with 4" tail is about the same length as a T350 with 6" tail
