I'm looking for more information and possible where I can find one of these grill guards.

That's what I would do. Get yourself some 1" or 1-1/4" stainless tube and bend one up. In fact, the one on the green truck looks as though it may not be an original....it has a larger radius than the one in the first pic.

From what I've read the originals were made out of solid bar stock. Cosmetically I doubt anyone could tell the difference from the outside. Not sure how much difference it would make in actual protection.

Where it mounts to the bumper it looks like they just flattened the tubing. If it was solid it would take a lot of heat and pressure to do that. I would have to say they used tubing.

That is a nice one, but it would be about $500 to rechrome it to show quality, you would really want it to get it.

Dad has one of those grille guards laying around in his garage somewhere. We took it off his 66 several years ago (shortly after my uncle drove the truck up from Texas). Anyway, what markeb01 read is correct; they were indeed made of solid bar stock. And, yes they are heavy.

that first pic is of one i've got... thought at first it was tubing, but no, it's solid. my chrome guy said about 250-300 to replate.

...Well if your handy you could get a H.F. bender and make your own, they have benders for round & flat stock....

Picked this 65 truck up today. Had the grill guard on it. Glad there's some knowledge out there about them. I really like it.

Are they that rare? I'm pretty sure I have 2 in the garage waiting to be mounted, one for a 63 (round ends) and one for a 64-66 (squarer ends). If anyone wants one, I might be able to put you in contact with a guy on Facebook who had one on his truck. He busted an axel a couple weeks ago, but might still have access to it. The truck is 'Christine'.
