where to hook to pull the engine

where are you guys hooking to to pull the ls engines from there original truck. i have a 01 yukon that i am getting ready to pull the motor, but i dont really see anywhere feasable to do it, are you guys removing the intakes,,im sure i will figure something out, just thought maybe somebody already had this delima and could point me one way or another

Use the bolt holes in the front and rear of the heads. Use opposite corners. Its better with the intake removed so you dont have to worry about the chain cracking it.

x2....tho I've seen a cool lifter valley cover lift plate, that might be worth buying/making....

My motor was already pulled so this may not help, but I moved loaded and unloaded it a couple times with the intake still on. I used a chain with a piece of pipe centered over the motor held taught with two bolts to keep the chain from breaking the intake. Finding the position to lift from was a little tricky, but you'll figure it out. I think I used a bolt on the rear where the bell housing bolts up and on the opposite side in the front, I believe it was a bolt threaded into the head because if I remember right I was afraid to lift from the aluminum head, but did it anyway. Here are a couple pics, hope it works for you.

I havent seem that plate myself but that would be the best bet. Multiple bolt down points and a centered lift point.

If you don't have one, get a load leveler. Makes life a ton easier when you are pulling or dropping in an engine. I pulled my intake and then hooked my chains to 2 bolts installed into the bosses on the front of the heads, and then the rear 2 onto 2 of the bellhousing bolts.

i have one,,i was just trying to get a rough idea what these others did,,im so used to the old sbc that i usually pull the dizzy and force the engine out,,but with all the plastic,, i was tryin to be more careful

I just pulled mine from the donor truck last weekend. I removed the core-support, radiator, condensor etc. On the engine, I removed the coils as an entire unit(s) and removed the intake and alternator as well. I used and open bolt hole the passenger side cylinder head and the alternator bracket to remove the engine/trans as a complete unit.
