Emissions Legal Intake Manifold

I noticed the other day that I was getting some serious rust/flaking in the middle of my stock intake manifold on my 86 K10. I got to thinking maybe it is time for an upgrade anyway. (just a poor excuse to add perf parts. LOL) Does anyone know of any CA emissions legal intake manifolds for a small block chevy that work in my low rpm range? I know the performer is one but maybe something with a newer design that has the EGR capability? I would like something to give me a little performance boost if I can while appearing stockish. I generally don't spin the engine more then idle to 4500 RPM.

For what you're doing I don't know of an intake any better than an Edelbrock Performer.

Okay. I thought so but I figured it may be worth it to ask people who may be more up to date on their summit and jegs offerings then I. Thank you

Re: Emissions Legal Intake Manifold

I ended up getting a nice gm performance aluminum intake from a zz motor. Looks to be identical to the edelbrock performer with an egr. I am glad too because after I paint it black and install it will be difficult to determine it not being the stock unit. I may hold off for awhile though to install it as I am contemplating a cam swap as well. I am looking into the extreme energy or extreme 4x4 cams. I reall want it to be stronger on the bottom end then what this 260 hp crate engine is now.

I've done that for over 30 years, I just sand off anything that says performance or aftermarket and paint it with the rest of the engine. Never once has any smog tech called me on it

I did roller rockers in addition too shorty headers, and a performer manifold on the same crate motor. I have no regrets since the rockers easier to do for nearly the same performance, and cheaper too. A can swap for me would only be a roller in today's world of low/no zinc oils.

Re: Emissions Legal Intake Manifold

FYI That rust/flakey paint was caused by the exhaust cross over port. The new aluminum will not rust, but the paint will eventually burn and flake. Like mine did. It's normal.

I just can't justify the cost of a roller cam, lifters springs and rockers on this engine. Perhaps I will go with some roller tip rockers and the manifold swap. I am just looking for a little more umph from it. Several members here have had good results with the comp cams and I was thinking of doing the same.
