Real top speed bummer

I was driving the wifes 99 GMC burb today. I like it. It's nice.

I'm heading out of town on one of the many quiet 2 laner county roads, nothing but caorn fields and silos for several miles. I decide after a hard day of not much to see what this baby will do. It only revs about 1700 rpm for like 60 mph, it should fly right?

Well, I'm getting me a jet chip, cause it starts cutting out at like 100 mph and I know there is a lot more there. Anybody out there used a chip and found out the top end on a vortec 5.7?

It could be the govenor only allowing you to hit a certain top speed.
I know that our Chrysler 300M tops out at 110 MPH, whatever that's about
I was kinda bummed out because it was still pulling strong. If it ain't the govenor maybe just put some high octane gas in there.

It's probably the governor, my 2003 Malibu pulls strong until it hits about 108 mph, ( 170 km/h) then just dies. You might be able to find a chip that will remove it.

you can get a hypertech plug-in programmer that well eliminate the top speed shut off as well as a few other things to speed it up. the manufacturers of the vehicles don't want you to exceed the tire's rated max speed, so to be safe you have a fuel shut off. my '98 ss wouldn't shut off and it had z rated tires. my parents t/a would shut off at 112. my dad calls the dealer and asks about it and they tell him if he puts on z rated tires they'll remove the limiter.

http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/19chevgmcveh.html 1 thing was said at both sites, they said if you replace youre themostat with 160deg,the computor will think your engine is cooler than it is and will supply more fuel than normal,,,,however this will "only" occur at "WIDE OPEN THROTTLE ONLY"...JEFF

Thanks everyone.

Has anybody used a chip or reprogrammer and tested their top end yet? At least on a vortec 5.7.

My truck has 2 speed limiters!

1.Speedo pegs at 100

2.It's an aerodynamic brick

Is there a chip that will fix this?
