MSD 6010 map advance curve

Hey all, got my truck to run this past weekend withh the timing pill #1. I want to play around with the MSD software and program my own timing curve and map advance curve. The timing portion is quite simple in relation to degrees and RPM. The map advance scale is showing PSI to degrees... how are the two related? I know when there is 0 PSI there's "full" engine vacuum. Meaning as vacuum decreases, pressure rises. But how and where do istart with the map curve!? Very confused here, hoping someone helps me.

First thing you have to do is install a map sensor and remove the pill . Once you have done this hook up your laptop and see what vacuum you have . At full vacuum you want what ever timing advance you have installed ( same advance as the canister on the dist ) . At wot the vacuum will go to 0 and remove the added vacuum advance . At cruise the timing will be added back and give a cleaner burn for mpg and better idle and burn . It does the same exact thing the vac canister does on a dist . Just play around with it and set the laptop in the pass seat with live info and watch what it does .

I always switch PSI to Kpa for MAP readings (to me its easier). IMO the 0-100 scale breaks down easier vs rpm and timing.

I will plug in the laptop and see what does live. And 0-100? How do you switch it from psi to kpa?

i would dial in the timing with the map sensor disabled to start things off, you will have to set all the values in the map advance timing to zero to fully disable it.

For the timing table; set it at 10 degrees at 0 rpm, 15 degrees at idle (500-800 RPM) then ramp up to 28 degrees by 2500 RPM and flat-line from there. Drive around and play with it get it dialed in with out the map advance then slowly start tweaking it from there. Its a really easy program to use. Check out the carb lsx section of LS1 tech it has some great resources.

I'm used to HPt, so I'm not actually 100% sure if its an option in the program your using.

Don't be scared, it's easy! Do this first, this is exactly where my timing is set as well:

I set my MAP up similar to this as a baseline. Need to do some more tweaking, but this got me going. I am going to get some dyno time and get it all dialed-in. Nice thing about having the MSD 6010 and my FiTech set-up is all the basic tuning can be done on the fly, very easily. No need for HP Tuners or EFI Live. I don't know if this will be "easier" for the tuner, but it seems like it, we'll see.

Wow, thanks guys! I will give it a shot, unfortunately my truck is down with a fuel delivery issue. Also, my laptop has a female end for the connector and so does the msd 6010. The cord supplied has a female and a male end so ill have to grab another cord as well. I will play around with the map unplugged and then set the timing table and go from there. Thanks a bunch!
