The infection grows
I finally made another life changing purchase. I decided enough running around with a 9mm. It's time to make it right. Assuming the UPS plane doesn't crash I will have my first (notice the phrasing there) 1911.
It's a RIA 5", extended beavertail, Novak sights and ambi safety. Model # 51448 to be exact. One of the first changes will be an arched main spring housing from Wilson Combat. They just fit me better. At the same time I will try out the Wilson Combat checkered foil piece that fits under the grips. I might even do some trigger work after I run a few hundred rounds through it for break-in. I'm also thinking some Philippine mahogany double diamond grips to contrast the matt nickle finish. As time goes I might decide to change the barrel and bushing. Maybe even a 2 piece guide rod. I don't know yet, we'll see. It's time for me to get that RL550 I suppose. This thing may get hungry and that's the best way i can think of to feed it

Re: The infection grows
The checkered foil piece will feel nice. I've running one of those for years, moved it from one gun to the next.
Arched or flat main spring housing is personal. How it feels in your hand AND POA/POI. I like the flat main spring, but with my new barrel, I needed to raise the POI. The arched main spring housing brought me back on target. Once I install adjustable sights, I will go back the flat housing.

Re: The infection grows
and my brother just last week bought
M&P15 M&P Shield 9mm Benelli Super Nova 12g 420 rnds of 55gr FMJ for the AR 500 rnds 125FMJ for the 9mm 100 rnds 2 3/4 00buck 12g 500 rnds 22lr for his SR22 He is also thinking of a .270 win rifle. I'm steering him towards a Savage 111 My mom likes guns but no where as much as us "boys". She will use my 6.8 AR if she gets a tag next year. How do I get my sister into this disease? Both her boys have some. She is the last holdout in the family. Can you imagine if we all got together at next year's family reunion? It is held at one guy's family farm with a 200 yard range

Re: The infection grows
It came in today. While I was at home eating lunch the pawn shop called. "Sorry Hun, I gotta eat on the run". Then at my break I did a tear down, clean and lube. They said it is "matt nickle" but it sure seems like stainless steel. Maybe tomorrow night I will take it to the range and see how it works. I'm stoked!

Re: The infection grows
Oh, forgot to mention. The front of grip frame has vertical serrations. I won't need that foil piece. The main spring housing is checkered. Now all I have to deal with is some nice wood grips

Re: The infection grows
Nice looking gun. I like the appy safety. Vertical serrations are good enough.

Re: The infection grows
I just did another teardown, further clean, and Frog Lube treat. Then I did a "redneck trigger" job. It's much smoother but 300 rounds from now that may get even better. The wife is giving me the stink eye for "playing" with it while watching TV next to her. Time to get some ice cream and give her some attention.
