R&R SBC oil pan in K10, do I need to lift the motor?
I need to replace the oil pan and gasket on the 400 in my '65 K10. At first blush it looks like the pan should come out no problem, but I might not be taking the oil pickup and pump into account.

There should be plenty of room in a K10 to drop the pan. That is unless someone has installed a non stock engine mount crossmember. In stock form there is no crossmember under the engine.

![]() ![]() Well, that was easy enough. No more drips and no more smelling oil when I'm driving. The best Christmas present I could give my wife, a dry driveway. |

I see that you have either a 383 or a 400/406. Is that the same pan that was on the engine or is it a different pan? The reason I ask is that with the 3.75" stroke, the baffle in the pan has to be correct otherwise the crank and rods can hit the baffle in the pan.

Re: R&R SBC oil pan in K10, do I need to lift the motor?
Captain,
A sort of follow-on engine oil pan question, for a SBC 400 is their a stock 6 Qt pan that works, e.g. 327- 365 or 375 HP, . A short list of 350s will help. Thanks, Les |

Re: R&R SBC oil pan in K10, do I need to lift the motor?
I'm not sure about a factory 6qt pan. It is doubtful but you might still have a look at them. The way to tell if the pan will work with the 3.75" stroke is look at the beads rolled into the baffle plate in the typical X shape. If the beads are facing down, the pan will work. If they are facing up, the pan will not.

Easy fix for that, after installing start the truck and rev to 5800 rpm until noise or engine stops.
