Do you wave?

Do you wave to other drivers of the same truck?

I ask, because when MINI Coopers were new, everyone waved to each other, and this was a thread topic. It's rare now, since they are so common.

I see more waves when I drive The Green Barge.

The reason I thought of starting this thread, last week had a cute lady in a MINI roll down her window to tell me she liked my truck. When I pointed to my MINI hat and said I also have a MINI, she had a great reaction!

Your answers may also depend on where you live. I live in a small town, not a city.

Re: Do you wave?

Yes, when I'm in an older vehicle and see another I wave. When I'm in a newer vehicle I don't wave just because someone else bought one, too. Of course, I don't own anything newer than '95, and these days I'll stick my hand up or give a nod to other 88-98s. I wave, nod, or speak to anyone I make eye contact with, walking, driving, sitting. Laying I'm usually asleep, so not then.

I'm funny about it on my Harley. It used to be everybody put a hand out only to Harleys. Then came the Hardly Davidsons and you accidentally waved to those. Then, everybody with two hands, two feet, and at least one eye was out riding on them and I just wave to the old school riders. Now I wave at whoever it seems right to and it doesn't matter what brand. My wave is just opening up my hand while my palm rests on the bars. But when I see Joe Cool point at the ground with a tough look on the face (new schoolers) I stick my hand way up and give a friendly wave with a smile. I am who I am on my two wheels or on my two feet. I like to smile when I'm happy and I am happy when I ride

Re: Do you wave?

When my FIL got his Powerstroke, I told him he was going to have to learn to wave. At least in my neck of the woods, EVERY Powerstoke driver waved to each other. I think there was a law or something.

Re: Do you wave?

I will generally wave to folks and most wave back.

But there's a guy that I see driving down the street from time to time (lives in my general neighborhood) in a really trick '70 shortbed with a late model stepside bed. I wave to him every time I see him, but he is oblivious. I know my truck isn't as nice as his, but still...

Re: Do you wave?

I wave to pretty much everyone but mostly only the other Harley riders wave back. Very few cagers around here wave.

Re: Do you wave?

Everyone here waves ! This is country we all use the same gas stations / grocery stores / post office We notice a strange car or truck and we keep an eye out for our neighbors and their property . It's just like Mayberry complete down to our local Barney Fife constable ! If someones kid gets out of line it's not uncommon for another parent to call or stop by their house

sounds like my town allways somebody watchin out. nothing goes by unnoticed.

i wave to people i know when in the truck.

out on the bike waving drives me nuts i could go a mile without touching the grip with my wave hand sometimes.

its that point in the middle of the wave of 5 other bikers coming the other way when ya see that pothole appear out from nowhere and your life flashes and you envision a close up of the road surface and cleaning gravel out of your road rash.

i should just get one of those old suction cup springy waving hand things and mount it on the end of my bars on the left side then i wouldnt have to "let go" of them.

Re: Do you wave?

Our waves are more a subtle "thumbs up" or simply lifting two fingers off the steering wheel. It's the acknowledgment of "hi friend" whether you know the other driver or not.

I forgot about bikers. I notice Harley riders don't wave to crotch rockets.

I also forgot, that when out in the sticks, everyone does wave no matter what.

Re: Do you wave?

Not in my town unless you have a muscle car or truck someone likes usually its a thumbs up and a shout of "sweet car".

But in smaller towns nearby everyone waves its the hidden code

I think you, and other replies describe our country. We're rural, small town too. It's just habit for us to wave whether we're home or traveling.

We've had friends and relatives to visit here, and ask, "Does everyone know everyone here and everywhere they go?".
Most here will stop and offer a helping hand if you need it, too.
We seldom lock our house, or pull the keys from the vehicles, unless we're going to be gone for a few days. Then the neighbors all know where we keep them in case they need in or use a vehicle.

We like our small town, and quiet, isolated living 12 miles from it. Our kids could get mad at us, run away all day, and we could still see them from the house.

We think it's a great way of life, since we've never known anything different and think it's was a good place to raise a family. Especially when we see on tv, or read the paper and see all the things that go on in the "big cities".

Re: Do you wave?

I get lot's of waves and nods when I drive my 64 GMC around. Course I wave back or honk. I Love it when I happen to pass someone driving a 60's Chevy or GMC the opposite direction. Usually we both end up honking and waving. It's pretty neat.

In Iowa the only one's that don't wave are Strangers! We do the Farmer two Finger, by that I mean you just lift two fingers off the steering wheel. I ride a Harley and I wave at all Bikes, if they don't wave back I Salute Them

Re: Do you wave?

I was born and raised in Texas. I have not lived there in over 10 years now, but when I go to visit, and pull to the side of the road to.... ahhhhh.... check the tires, there is always at least one person that will pull over to see if I am Ok.

Re: Do you wave?

When out here in the sticks pretty much all of us wave, at least hand up at the wheel. Younger kids less than older folk. When in the city I tend to lean more toward the one finger salute

Re: Do you wave?

Old car drivers up here acknowledge each other for the most part, and then generally extends to hot-rodded late model cars and truck for some folks. Its not always really a wave ;

The full wave is older generations mostyle, but its "polite". You'll see a few raised fingers from the wheel or the window for the subtle notice. IMO Putting the deuces up is a little more gracious or more directly acknowledgement. Its also not uncommon for some to do a small salute, light honk or of course the classic thumbs up. Even the "metal" horns from time to time.

I do see some cliques or subcultures gravitate to one or the other.

i rode a cbr for 13 yrs and a few other bikes till i wanted too slow down.
i dont really care what i or anyone else rides thats a choice we all have.

waving is just being nice. but gets annoying cause when its warm there is a crap ton of bikes on the road around here.

the wierdest bike i rode was a hondamatic 450. the worst was a ninja 250 or the yamaha exciter 250 they sucked. but they still got me out in the wind and to me thats all that matters.
i've been looking for a good deal on a softtail.

i get alot of thumbs up when out in the camaro.

Re: Do you wave?

I rode bikes forever and I was sick of the wave thing ... Oh hey look, you have a motorcycle too!

Embarrassingly when I got my first Scion, the square version, people in other Scions waved ... I would just shrink down in my seat haha.

As far as old cars and trucks, since they are so far and few between Ill give em a nod or a small wave if I'm in an old car or truck.
