Tie Rod Adjusting Sleeve 1968
Quick question, hoping for a quick answer. I'm redoing the tie rods on my 1968 Chevy stepside. Staying original on the tie rods, but converting to power steering. Are the tie rods adjusting sleeves the same for both manual and power steering? I've seen in several vendor catalogs that they list both, with the power steering being much higher. Don't know why there would be a difference, but before I spend extra bucks on something I don't need, would like an explanation. Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Tie Rod Adjusting Sleeve 1968
I believe the power steering ones are bigger because the tie rods are bigger. I have 2 that I bought from NAPA and only used for a about a 1000 miles. I'll take $30 shipped for them, if you want them.

Re: Tie Rod Adjusting Sleeve 1968
Thanks for the information, but my tie rods are identical. When you say they are bigger, are you referring to the thread size, or the length of the adjusting sleeve? I'm not using the 71-72 tie rods.

I believe he is referring to the diameter of the threaded part of the tie rods. Make sure when you buy your replacements that the taper on the tie rod ends fits your spindles and drag link (center link) I went through four sets of tie rods until I got the right ones with the correct taper (Mine is a '71 and it had power steering) I ran into another snag with my dropped spindles, but it was simple, the tie rod end mounted opposite of the factory tie rod, they attached from the top instead of from the bottom. good luck with your build!
