Finding my dad's 1968 GMC

Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post, but I figured this was the best place to post it. If this is the wrong place to post, if an admin could scoot this post over to where it truly needs to be, I'd appreciate it.

in 2012/2013, my dad, http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard//member.php?u=7598 jeffspower sold his 1968 GMC 4x4 shortbed.

Last year in March, he passed away to cancer. And I got the feeling of trying to find this truck back. He bought it when he was 15-16, I was driven everywhere in it as a kid. I miss the silly thing. I'd love to find it and somehow buy it back.

Also please excuse the username, I made it when I was... 15? I think? (I'm now 24) It's been a very, very long time.

1968 GMC Shortbed 4x4, 350, 4 speed muncie (I think?). Here's a bit about it from my dad's profile. "68 GMC shortbox 4x4 350/SM465/T221"

It was sold in Kansas City, in 2012/2013. Not sure where it went after that. I think it was sold to a classic vehicle dealer in Omaha.

I will be getting property tax receipts of my dad's from 2011/12/13 to try and find the VIN. (if that's possible)

So sorry for your loss. When you don't see someone post for a long time, it makes you wonder what happened.

Your dad sold that truck cheap if it was a true GMC shortbed 4x4. Quite a rare truck.

Holy **** I think I found it!

VIN: KE10DPB37803

It's been sold though, can't find a year, but it has the VIN and you could try to contact them to see who they sold it to.

It looks like they cleaned up the interior, but it has the same wheels, mirrors and cab grips behind the doors, color looks the same...

Thank you. I also forgot, we took the stripe off a while before we sold it. Way below is a picture of how it was before it got sold.

And I honestly believe I found the site where it got sold - http://www.classiccarliquidators.com...10DPB37803/191. They tinted the windows, took out all of the crushed velvet interior (those monsters!) and changed the transmission from a manual to an automatic. But it has the wacky ass sunroof. I honestly believe this is it, but I could be wrong.

Did they give you a date, or at least a year? It was on ebay in July 2014 in the link I posted, so maybe the seller bought it from the classic place in 2012/13 and was looking to sell in 2014?

I'd contact the ebay seller too... they might be the current owner.

Edit... nevermind, just noticed the seller was "classiccarliquidators"... same company...

You've already gotten a lot farther than most people, you even have the VIN now, and if those pics are somewhat recent, the truck looks great still! And honestly, being a GMC shortbed 4x4, it's worth what they were asking for it.

I'd have to sell some things to buy it back, though. Either my 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 that has a Dorothy from the movie Twister (it's a movie replica vehicle), or my 1973 Gran Torino Sport Cobrajet.... I'll make it happen somehow.

And the ebay listing keeps linking to "seller has relisted", until the last one says "not found". So it definitely sold to someone.

Probably not the place for this, but could you post a pic of the Grand Torino Sport. My brother had one back in high school. I didn't know they came with a CJ. You never see those around any more.

Well, here are the vehicles I'll have to choose between to sell, to afford possibly buying my dad's truck back. I'm not sure when I'll hear back from them, or if I'll ever hear back from them. I might do a vin lookup to see where it's registered now.

Yes it is lol although the V10 2500 is much better than what I thought he had. The 1/2 ton dodges went through trannys about 1 per oil change if J remember right. Still a no brainer though

The thing that sucks is that the Dodge Ram and my whole Twister movie replica project is what got me through my dad's diagnosis and passing (and the robbery two weeks after he passed... And my relationship falling apart) and the Gran Torino is my dream car.

Everything is still up in the air, so we'll see.The Gran Torino is rare, and the Twister truck is my childhood dream project. Gran Torino needs a full resto, new roof metal, floorboards, repaint, and the truck needs repaint and interior work.

I would have to say - I'd rather keep the Gran Torino, to have both Cool Car and Cool Truck combo.

And thank you for all the help, everyone - these trucks were my dads passion, and the GMC being his first truck is the one I want back. But... If it's changed a LOT since we sold it, in major ways, I'll let it stay in the past and in my heart.

If I can also ask a favor, post this around and share the story/thread with other groups that deal with classic Chevy/GMC vehicles, or classics in general. The more this gets out, the better chance I have of getting in contact with the owner.

I might see about getting a private investigator in Dallas/Fort Worth to see if they can hunt it down - title office here in Missouri can't tell me anything. Mostly due to being in Missouri, and due to privacy acts.
