AM/FM Radio Question
Hey guys and gals,
I have an OEM AM/FM radio that I believe has a bad output transformer. Does anyone have a part number or information on where one can be found? Any idea if this transformer would have carried over to other vehicle years and models? Does anyone know if the transformer is different than a standard AM radio? |

Re: AM/FM Radio Question
Your issue is not a transformer, it's probably the power TRANSISTOR. I have mine in the shop waiting for this repair. I found the replacement on the web thanks to Mr. Google and that famous auction site. Look at the large metal heat sink on the side of the radio (black finned thing). In the center is a silver disk about the diameter of a quarter. That is the power transistor. On it are some numbers. Start googling. If you have no luck, PM me. And yes, AM is different from AM/FM. Usually a symptom of a failed transistor is that the radio will work but with low volume. This is caused by people turning on the radio without a 8 ohm speaker attached. NEVER TURN ON WITHOUT SPEAKER ATTACHED! There is even a warning about this on the top plate of these radios.
