Re: Fuel Tank - Rear Mount Installation/Brand
My only experience is with Boyd's tanks. Install was pretty easy. Remove a small crossmember, drill a few holes, bolt it up. I went an extra step and welded to nuts to the frame, so I could easily drop the tank later without removing the bed.

Re: Fuel Tank - Rear Mount Installation/Brand
I used the 18 gallon tank from Truck and Car Shop in CA. Very affordable and super easy to install. Is a top fill. Good quality to.

Re: Fuel Tank - Rear Mount Installation/Brand
There will be a filler cap above the bed yes, not sure where it will line up yet as I am a ways away from getting bed wood. haha

Re: Fuel Tank - Rear Mount Installation/Brand
I have the boyds welding tank in my 66 and it works good. It is tank fill and lines up in the center of one of the boards. I have a stainless steel hinged plate in the bed for access to the cap.

Re: Fuel Tank - Rear Mount Installation/Brand
I just put the LMC tank in mine last night. Can't have asked for an easier install. It's also a top fill and the filler is offset so it lines up with the center of one of the boards. Working on a filler setup now, I'm not too keen on what LMC has to offer so I'm going to look for a different option.

Re: Fuel Tank - Rear Mount Installation/Brand
Would probably want a filler cap/plate bolted to the boards, and a rubber filler hose running between the cap mounted to the boards, and the filler on the tank. Just my guess as I haven't put my bed back on yet.

Re: Fuel Tank - Rear Mount Installation/Brand
The top fills of these versions have been fine, only the side fills have needed frame modification. And I believe it was either Classic parts or Truck and Car shop that DOES specify this.

Re: Fuel Tank - Rear Mount Installation/Brand
This is a Rick's Tanks stainless steel direct fit that is sold by ECE and it includes the crossmember that goes between the ends of the frame rails and is part of the mounting. It fills through an aluminum marine cap that goes through the bed wood. If need be I can have it sitting on the floor in less that 10 minutes.

Re: Fuel Tank - Rear Mount Installation/Brand
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=621177 here's a thread I started when I did mine. I was concerned about the ascetics of my install as I wanted it to be tucked up and out of sight.....and it is.

Re: Fuel Tank - Rear Mount Installation/Brand
Thanks
Any pros or cons going standard steel, aluminum, or stainless? Especially if the idea is you never want to see it? |
