Car designers dont use a preset font, My Dad worked for Lincoln in the 50's and they did all of their own.

I'd say for the most part that's going to be true. They were hand drawn, like most graphic design in the 50s, 60s, and early-mid 70s. Any font you find now is going to be created after the fact by some graphics studio based on the design logo created by GM, Ford, etc.
