I figured it was time to rebuild the engine in my truck as it was leaking and burning a lot of oil, not to mention some knocking sounds. It is at the machine shop right now. I was trying to get engine color. I thought it was the green color but come to find it is the blue/gray color. Here are some pictures for you enjoyment as I know you guys like pictures. I will have some after pictures when the time comes. There was no bearing material on the rods except for the #4 hole. I could use the lifters at bowls.

More. If anyone knows where I can get the engine color I would love for you to pass that info along to me. As it is I am going to take the oil pan with me to the paint store and see what they can do.

Consider springing for a retrofit roller cam. Pricey, but you don't need to stress over the level of zinc/zddp in your oil.

I haven't yet found what the proper color is, though I understand many use Ford Gray (which is what I used on the motor in my '61).

If you can polish up some of the original color, you can probably have your local paint shop match it.

Looks like you got your money's worth out of that bad boy!

Those lifters don't have holes in the bottoms, in spite of that amount of dishing. Amazing.

Here's what they look like in Ford gray. I also went with a gloss clear over the gray which was also made for engines.

I used this paint https://www.hirschauto.com/ENGINE-EN...RT/CHV%20GREY/ for my 283 in my 65' C20, it looks better in person than the picture. It is a close match to the original.

I am guessing it is the Chevrolet gray 29-52. The link brings up all the color choices.

Just a few.

I have had it for I believe 4 years now. Mileage unknown. Speedo broke at 54999.

That's a MUCH closer color to the factory grey , than the Ford color. Looks great !

Thanks! I've been meaning to make a build thread on the truck that engine is going in. Glad you like the color, it looks way better in person.

I stopped by an autobody paint store yesterday and found a close match to my oil pan color. I will post pictures after I paint. That would be in about a week or 2.

I assume a quart was enough to cover your engine?

I just bought one arousal can. Should be enough as long as I don't waste it. If I want to do a separate quart with hardener, it will be $101.

I think that it will take two cans. In my experience, one won't quite make it. BUT, the gray may be a real high-hide color, and it may only take one can. I know that the Moly Orange usually took a little less than two cans to cover a V-8 engine. Maybe I was just happy with the fumes?

I bought one just in case I didn't like the color. I will be using black Epoxy Primer so that will help a lot.

Got my short block back. A friend has a set of heads already done but I'm still waiting for them. My other dilemma is whether to put a 700r4 automatic transmission I have or back to the 3 on the tree which is also an overdrive but not original to the truck. With an auto my son could drive it but I do plan on teaching him how to drive a stick.

Just curious!
Some people bolt on higher cc heads without a thought and loose a bunch of compression and power.
