power brakes

got my power brakes in and finally got everything adjusted right!

i can't beleive how much this helps,i love it.

just in case anyone was wondering about my earlier post the master cylinders are the same part number on power as manual brakes

I'm pumped also! I installed mine last weekend. Works great! Almost planted my face through the windshield a couple times! It takes a few drives to get used to the idea I don't have to push so hard. Trying to install power steering this weekend. Off to a rough start though. Darren

longhornmail and 70, they must be the same. I just took the old manual master cylinder off the firewall (Like Wes told me to do), and put it on the end of the booster along with the original proportioning valve. It worked beautifully the first try! No problems! Sweet upgrade. Darren

I just did mine a few weeks ago, it maks a big differance when your in traffic. I wish I would've know it was the same master cylinder, I went out and bought a new one. Anyone need a good master cylinder

I had a 67 that didn't have power brakes and I found a booster for, installed it that weekend. Wife and me work at the same place a ride together some times, she went to get the truck and I was waiting for her. I started getting all these guys pointing and laughing back up through the parking lot. Here my wife is not think about what I had worked so hard at all weekend slaming the brakes on. Everybody was laughing at her, she never drove that truck again. She was %^$#@ me all the way home. I tried to explan but it didn't matter. But the master cyclinder is the same for either truck. Sorry for being so long.

Do you just add power brakes or disc brakes as well?

I have factory power brakes but drums and I have to exert a pretty fair amount of pressure to stop...and when the drums get hot(i.e. coming down a step winding mountain road) I can actually lose significant braking power all together.

I'm getting ready to do a front disc brake conversion...if you did this which kit did you buy and how difficult was it to install? How many hours did you spend working on it?

It took me more than 8 hours, but I used original '71 spindles, bearings, rotors, a-arms, centerlink, & brake lines. My calipers, pads, hoses, tie rod ends, master cylinder were from autozone, and my proportioning valve was from LMC truck. Also, I had to move the brake hose bracket from the rear of the carriage to the front. It was a lot of work, but it was well worth it, because '71/ '72 parts will always be available unlike aftermarket parts such as six lug rotors.
