1 or 2 peice drive shaft?

I am chopping the frame on my 68 lwb 454/400 trans. and making a swb. I am also lowering it 4/6". My question is do I have to modify my center cross brace to run a 1 peice drive shaft? Or am I going to have to stick with the carrier bearing and modify my current drive shaft. does anyone know where to have a drive shaft built, or are they available for what I am doing?

I always run 1 piece shafts on shortbeds.

Just remove the carrier bearing assembly and chunk it away. You're going to have to have a new driveshaft built anyway, so a 1 piece one will be easy.

You'll want to get rid of all of the carrier bearing brackets that are riveted to the crossmember, but you won't have to modify the crossmember in any other way.

I am running a 1 piece driveline in my 70 shortbed. I had A driveline made by A local driveline shop. Removed carrier bearing and brackets. Works great!!

So just taking out the bearing and the brackets even on a stock ride height SWB the driveshaft will clear go through the hole in the crossmember? I just know that before the front shaft and the back shaft were at different angles.

Yes it will clear in most cases but it will depend on how much of a drop you put on the truck and if it an air ride system. My air ride system goes low enough that I had to remove a small amount of the rear cab to clear the D-line so just double check then check some more before you screw up a shaft.

Yeah I am planning on just running stock ride height to get the truck out there. If I decide I don't like the stance then I will look into lowering the truck at that point.
