Is this why transmission fluid is leaking from my yoke?
I have an 87 2wd with the 700r4. Whenever I park the truck on a hill, I get a massive leak out of the weep hole on the driveshaft yoke. I found on 73-87.com, the reason why this happens and how to fix it (http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/yokeleak.htm). I pulled the tailshaft off, and I did not find the cup which includes the o-ring at fault. I believe this is the reason why it's leaking. I remember the previous owner saying the transmission was overhauled or replaced, can't quite remember. This could be why. So I'm assuming it is suppose to have this according to 73-87.com? Where can I find this cup? I already have the o-ring.
The cup with o-ring which I guess I should have ![]() My assembly, as you can see, no cup: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Local transmission shop? Chevy Dealer? Boneyard?....whichever is easier or most convenient.

Re: Is this why transmission fluid is leaking from my yoke?
I'm going to try a local transmission shop this week. I'm glad I found that article, otherwise, I would have never figured out why it was leaking. Not only did whoever rebuilt/replaced the transmission forget that cup, they also didn't put the flywheel/torque converter shield on.

Re: Is this why transmission fluid is leaking from my yoke?
chevymotocross, i had this problem on a 79 c-20 with a 350 turbo. i had the trans. rebuilt, and after i picked it up, it leaked bad out of the yoke, i took it back to the trans. shop & they said the plug had been knocked out in the rebuild process, as well as i remember, the hole was about the size of your little finger. they took the driveshaft out, and put silicon in the hole, that stopped the leak, hope this helps in some way, Art

Re: Is this why transmission fluid is leaking from my yoke?
I had the same problem so I went to the junkyard and found a cup, but couldn't get it off the shaft. It felt like if I had used a puller it would have gotten damaged. The only place I could find to buy the cup is the dealership but the parts counter guys are jerks about small stuff and I didn't feel like going through that dance with them. Same with the trans shops (no se hablan englais).
Nore more messing with that, I just plugged the tailshaft hole with a screw. Not my favorite way of doing things but it works and is free.

Weld it, glue it, or screw it, whatever it takes. It's a lot easier to plug the hole in the yoke, and net the same results.

Re: Is this why transmission fluid is leaking from my yoke?
My bro-in-law builds transmissions for a living. He built the 700r4 that we put in my 77 during my Ramjet conversion. He didn't realize I had a yoke with the vent hole so it leaked. He installed the cup, and seal and it still leaks. When I told him that it still leaks he said plug the hole and forget about it.

http://www.teckpak-fitzall.com/datasheets/35746ys.pdf I ordered the oring/cup parts to try it, but if they dont work...its getting sealed up one way or another. |

Re: Is this why transmission fluid is leaking from my yoke?
I guess if it was cheap...otherwise just hit it with a shot of brake cleaner, let it dry and dab some black rtv in the hole. Or JB weld, or a tiny machine screw. Any of the above will make it stop.
I still remember coming out to my truck parked on an incline in the driveway and fluid was all the way down into the gutter. DOH.

Re: Is this why transmission fluid is leaking from my yoke?
most common leaks with th350 at yoke is from front yoke, extension housing bushing being worn. due to wear or misalignment of pinion angle. most time replacing extension housing bushing and seal will fix this. small hole at rear og extension housing is for lubing yoke and bushing.this hole needs to be open or will cause bushing failure

Re: Is this why transmission fluid is leaking from my yoke?
well today , this is what i did , i went to ace hardware i found a body trim plug that was slightly larger than the hole put some RTV on it and pushed it in, i looked after about an hr and it seems to be pretty solid and no sign of leaks.
we will see if it holds up down the road.

Re: Is this why transmission fluid is leaking from my yoke?
If i remember correctly a bud light bottle cap has almost the same spline count and diameter as the inside of the yoke. Little rtv and a cap and your good

Re: Is this why transmission fluid is leaking from my yoke?
Thanks, This seems to be the best fix...I simply dripped about 1/4 inch of hot glue into the open end of the yoke and allowed it to cool..No leak..
