Caliper upgrade for Big 10
I realize the single piston is fairly large on my truck, but is there a dual piston replacement? Ive tried cking a few aftermarket places but not much available unless you do an absolute brake change over.
The brakes havent been touched or worried about in at least 5 years with no issues, but those 5 years are finally catching up. Rotors are wearing unevenly and pads need replaced soon. Id like to do front and rears all at once and be done with it |

Re: Caliper upgrade for Big 10
I've used the pads for the elcamino on my truck and the calipers physically look the same so i would think they are the same the pads were a dead match and you have a big10 so you have 1 1/4" rotors I just checked summit and the SSBC ones say they work on a c10 but they only work on the lighter 1" rotors and 81-87 but that is just because of the brake line difference they actually do interchange to a 73-80 I'm sure the wilwoods will work plus they support the wider rotor and they are a little cheaper

Re: Caliper upgrade for Big 10
I never understood why these are marketed as direct replacement calipers. I'm sure Wilwood knows that 2 x 2" pistons do not give the same piston area as 1 x 2.94 pistons. You lose about 1/2 sq in of piston area. How does this affect braking on your vehicle is unknown. But, I'll bet that if people complain about braking performance they immediately come out with something like "You need to buy our new improved double razmatazz triple throwdown master cylinder to go with those calipers."
Been here before with Wilwood..... Last edited by tmoble; 10-12-2015 at 09:48 PM. |

Re: Caliper upgrade for Big 10
if your pads are wearing unevenly it's likely because the slides are bound up. new oir cleaned up pins/bushings/o-rings plus clean-up of the surfaces where the calipers ride against the spindles probably fix it.
Did I mention that Wilwood calipers do this too? |

Re: Caliper upgrade for Big 10
Have you thought about throwing on c20 calipers? I believe they are a direct bolt on and could be had with 3 5/32 inch pistons and cost $10 each plus core from rockauto. Might be cheap enough to be worth a try before dropping more money on Wilwood calipers.

Re: Caliper upgrade for Big 10
recommend against changing the diameter of the piston unless you're prepared to make other changes to match

Re: Caliper upgrade for Big 10
I have these for my truck. They are a bolt-on and cheap. I haven't ran them yet, but thousands of c20's can't be wrong, lol. I bought mine from O'reillys.
